The presumptuousness of immigrants

Political parties take care of their constituents, that's what parties do.

Those who do not are not only lacking in character, they are also losers.

    The Obligation to Provide Asylum
"Shall we refuse the unhappy fugitives from distress that hospitality which the savages of the wilderness extended to our fathers arriving in this land? Shall oppressed humanity find no asylum on this globe? The Constitution, indeed, has wisely provided that for admission to certain offices of important trust a residence shall be required sufficient to develop character and design. But might not the general character and capabilities of a citizen be safely communicated to every one manifesting a bona fide purpose of embarking his life and fortunes permanently with us?" --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Annual Message, 1801. ME 3:338

"It [has] been the wise policy of these states to extend the protection of their laws to all those who should settle among them of whatever nation or religion they might be and to admit them to a participation of the benefits of civil and religious freedom, and... the benevolence of this practice as well as its salutary effects [has] rendered it worthy of being continued in future times." --Thomas Jefferson: Proclamation, 1781. Papers 4:505

"America is now, I think, the only country of tranquility and should be the asylum of all those who wish to avoid the scenes which have crushed our friends in [other lands]." --Thomas Jefferson to Mrs. Church, 1793. FE 6:289

"[We wish] but to consecrate a sanctuary for those whom the misrule of Europe may compel to seek happiness in other climes. This refuge, once known, will produce reaction on the happiness even of those who remain there by warning their task-masters that when the evils of Egyptian oppression become heavier than those of the abandonment of country, another Canaan is open where their subjects will be received as brothers and secured against like oppressions by a participation in the right of self-government." --Thomas Jefferson to George Flower, 1817. ME 15:141

One, I put Jefferson's position in context, which you deliberately failed to do.

Two, the majority of the GOP's constituents want the Senate version of the immigration bill passed. Only a small minority of the party are anti-immigrant.

No, they don't! Where are you getting this nonsense? Anti-"immigrant"? WTH are you talking about? No one objects to legal immigration it is illegal immigration that is the objection and rightly so! Why are you pro-illegals so dishonest?

Illegal aliens aren't refugees. Learn to know what a true refugee is. Hint - It isn't those coming here for jobs and benefits.

That's fine but when our politicians thumb their noses at our laws for their constituents. that's a whole different ball of wax. That is treating one group special and above those laws. That's not the American way. Politicians advocating for and a group demanding to get a pass on our law are the ones lacking in character.

Yes, we have no conscience and old white racist hearts on the far right, so we get the government we deserve.

Old white racists are way among them minority in this country. Why just mention whites anyway......now just who is the real racist here? That does not fit the description of most law abiding, loyal Americans either.

They certainly should start fighting Obama's EO which stop the deportations of millions of illegal aliens

Go with that strategy and see how it works out for you with Latino voters in 2016.

So what you are saying is that the GOP has to thumb their noses at our immigration laws in order to gain the Latino vote? Since when are Latinos above our immigration laws? Latinos tend to vote Democrat even without the illegal immigration issue as most minorities do because they like the socialism of the Democrat party.

So are you admitting that you are not interested in trying to win over Latino voters to the GOP?

You are more than happy to let the Dems have the lions share of that growing demographic that will convert red states to blue?

So you're admitting it's OK to cater to them simply to get votes. Not much character in that.

conservatives like to cater to everyone, regardless of sex or race. Only an idiot can not see the dems are in love with gender and racial politics.
