The Poisoning of Flint, MI.

This falls on the guy at the head of the state. Its his job to keep track if this stuff. He did not. He should be one of the many who takes the fall. If money has anything to do with this then money is more important than human lives in this case. I hope those people sue for crazy dollar amounts....I don't care what party it is....Snyder is far far far from innocent.

Now as far as this being a Republican scandal? Really? National Review does a great summation.

In sum: The Democratic government of a Democratic city destroys that city’s finances so thoroughly that it must go into state receivership;

a Democratic emergency manager signs off on a consensus plan to use a temporary water source;

the municipal authorities in that Democratic city responsible for treating and monitoring drinking water fail to do their job;

a state agency whose employees work under the tender attention of SEIU Local 517 fails to do its job overseeing the local authorities;

Barack Obama’s EPA, having been informed about the issue, keeps mum. Republican scandal.

Oh yeah, National Review.

Nothing like quoting the most right wing Republican organ in the country trying to wiggle out of responsibility for their actions --- like Repubtards always do.

The Governor appointed the person who was given the job of overseeing the water and getting the supply moved from the Lake to the polluted river.

His main job was to CUT TAXES. Anything he did that didn't CUT TAXES would have meant he was looking for another job. Of course, he is a right wing Repubtard too.

They KNEW the river was polluted and they KNEW there were chemicals to treat the water but using those chemicals would have COST MONEY and defeated their TAX CUTS and therefore was NOT AN OPTION.

They didn't care if they killed thousands of likely Democratic voters in Flint as long as they could point to TAX CUTS.

And that's the truth without any bullshit trying to cover the Governor's ass.

Just like the right wingers want to blame Obama for everything the Governor is responsible for what happens in his state.

I read most of the thread and would have to agree with the Snyder antagonists It sounds as though Snyder knew of the frightful problem and ignored it. He should be impeached. BTW, I only recwall one link in the entire thread. Links help determine the truth. I wouldn't agree the Maddow is an origin of truth.

Ah Jackson this issue in Flint is the perfect case example of that old addage...

"When we practice to deceive what a tangled web we weave".

Links more than available. I had this up in another thread. Maddow is NOT to be trusted.

You can start with the blame here.

Michigan Health Department Hid Evidence of Health Harm Due to Lead Contaminated Water: Allowed False Public Assurances by MDEQ and Stonewalled Outside Researchers

December 21, 2015 Siddhartha Roy Articles
After missing warning signs of spiking childhood lead poisoning that occurred few months after switching to a corrosive river water source in 2014, outside pressure forced officials at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to closely scrutinize their data in July 2015. They discovered scientifically conclusive evidence of an anomalous increase in childhood lead poisoning in summer 2014 immediately after the switch in water sources, but stood by silently as Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) officials repeatedly and falsely stated that no spike in blood lead levels (BLL) of children had occurred. DHHS employees later stonewalled efforts by outside researchers who questioned MDEQ statements and withheld damning documents but released incomplete data suggesting that there were no problems — DHHS officials ultimately fessed up only after incidence of childhood lead poisoning skyrocketed above 10% in the two Flint zip codes with highest water lead risk during summer 2015!

Why did MHD do that?

They didn't realize that because of all of the pollution and chemicals added in the water damaged the old pipes, which caused the lead leaking and they know it would be very costly if it came out.
Thank you. That is very interesting. Sad, but interesting.

It looks like many are at fault. Someone had better stand up and acknowledge the "buck stops here."

You don't have a clue what you are talking about asshole so I am about to shame you.

Bloody fool. He appointed Democrat Emergency Managers. Got it?

DEMOCRAT. So fuck right off with your bullshit. Give your head a shake and learn something.

The Democrat City Council decide to switch from Detroit Water and Sewage to a new company. KWA. It was a smart move. Got it? The Flint City Council asshole.

Detroit Water and Sewage cut off Flint so they had to find an interim source of water supply and the DEMOCRAT appointed Emergency Manager decided to run with Flint River.

Ok? See all the D's involved here sparky.?

The DEMOCRAT Emergency Manager Darnell Early approved the temporary switch to Flint River.

Then these bastards in my link lied to the Governor, the Flint City Council and the public.

Before you run your mouth off with talking points on this board you best be prepared to get a smack down with the truth. Partisan hack.

It looks like many are at fault. Someone had better stand up and acknowledge the "buck stops here."

To date the only one that has stepped up to the plate has been the Governor.

Here's my position on it. Apart from ripping left wingers a new orifice when they try to blame Republicans, I personally don't blame the politicians.

The Flint City Council actually made a wise financial decision to switch to this new company KWA. Then they were blindsided by Detroit Water and Sewage's move to cut them off.

KWA wasn't going to be ready for a couple of more years so they had no option but to find an alternate supplier. Flint River.

These are local politicians. They aren't to blame. They signed on in good faith with the Emergency Manager to a different interim supplier. In good faith.

And then they were deceived over and over and over. Ditto the Governor. Ditto the following Emergency Managers.

Politicians aren't water experts. They relied on people who blatantly lied and fudged data.

So in the end I can't find fault with politicians who trusted so called experts who lied their asses off to them.

This is really a nightmare of epic proportions. I've been a water conservationist going way back to an incredible disaster to First Nations with Grassy Narrows. Mercury poisoning.

The damage done be it mercury or lead cannot be undone.

I really feel for the people of Flint.

Rachel Maddow should be charged with poisoning people with hate. Why anyone listens to that ugly dyke is beyond me.

You calling her an ugly dyke does not invoke hate, but she does? Lmao! This is why you folks are losing the war. You have been winning some battles, but believe me when I tell you that you are losing the war. Millennials see right through this shit, and it's not because they are free spirited and think government will solve everything. They are actually quite even tempered about their ideas and what they expect from government and society. The world is changing, and this conservative run of the past thirty years is coming to an end.

LOL, do you live in a cave? Darryl Issa ring a bell? Calling you a hypocrite is high praise.

No hypocrisy here. The only thing in this thread is your willful ignorance of any hint of funny business as long as there isn't an (R) after the politician's name.
It is funny...Mrs BJ commits high crimes with her emails and the left yawns. Michigan governor may have had little involvement, but to the left he must resign and face prosecution.

Their blatant partisanship is clear to all but themselves.

You've made an allegation that HRC committed high crimes with her e-mails, but missing from your allegation is any evidence. In fact no harm has ever been reported resultant from her use of a private server; certainly none which reaches to the high crime of poisoning a civilian population.

Your use of "Mrs BJ" is evidence that you're are a partisan jerk not smart enough to post anything of substance, and thus you need to echo other crazy right wingers. You're pitiful.
I am a partisan jerk...too funny coming from you.

It is clear she broke the law. Now...is she above the law or not?

Mrs. BJ is an apt name for her....too bad you are so foolish as to put lying thieving corrupt politicians above name calling. When will you learn that ALL politicians are scumbags until prove otherwise? Mrs. BJ is a proven scumbag, but your silly partisanship prevents you from accepting the truth.
Meanwhile GOP policies are killing us.

Any surprise we don't trust you scum on global warming?
Silly partisan.

There is little difference between the two parties. When and if you grow up, you will comprehend this.

I admit...haven't read up on this much so I don't know. I've seen it's becoming a major political hot potato.

Some links please to clarify if you have them to things I've heard:

1. Who decided to switch the water supply....the governor or the city manager?
2. Is the water poisoned from the source or did the lead pipes corrode and thus cause the contamination? 2b. Was there any water treatment to make is safe that was skipped?
Asking for facts on USMB is like asking a street bum if he can spare a dollar

Then vote with your class and change that. E

The rich understand there's a difference. Only middle class Republicans don't vote right.

Let me guess you're a wedge issue voter.

Democrats understand there's a difference and rich people know there's a difference. Only you guys don't know it

State government merely signs the order. The federal government has the resources and the laboratories and the facilities and the freaking responsibility to monitor the drinking water of an entire city. Where was the freaking EPA? Is it possible that the Obama administration allowed this to happen to make a political issue out of it?

Flint area is starting to resemble Mississippi. Scary. To let Snyder off the hook is laughable. Sorry but to think he didn't know is ridiculous.

Still no record of the council voting to use Flint River, I wonder why that is, one would have thought minutes and voting records would have been kept. However there does seem to be this email from the office of the emergency manager, Earley...

Thank you for the correspondence dated February 12, 2014 which provides Flint with the option of continuing to purchase water from DWSD following the termination of the current contract as of April 17, 2014.
Following DWSD’s April 17, 2013 notice of termination of the water service contract between the City of Flint and DWSD, the City of Flint has actively pursued using the Flint River as a temporary water source while the KWA pipeline is being constructed. We expect that the Flint Water Treatment Plant will be fully operational and capable of treating Flint River water prior to the date of termination. In that case, there will be no need for Flint to continue purchasing water to serve its residents and businesses after April 17, 2014.
