A Newton woman is facing a federal charge after authorities said she is suspected of giving Cedric Ford the two weapons he used to shoot 17 people in Hesston on Thursday.

Sarah Jo Hopkins, 28, is the mother of Ford’s 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, according to court records obtained by The Eagle on Friday afternoon. She was charged with one count of knowingly transferring a firearm to a convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in an e-mailed news release Friday.

Hopkins is not the woman who filed for the protection order served to Ford at Excel Industries the day of the shooting.

An affidavit filed in the case alleges Hopkins knew of Ford’s criminal history – or had reason to think he had one – including his felony convictions, which barred him from possessing firearms.

She is accused in the document of giving him the Zastava Serbia AK-47-type semi-automatic rifle and the Glock Model 22 .40-caliber handgun he was carrying when he embarked on Thursday’s shooting spree.

Of course, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on the more than 33,000 deaths and 80,000 hospitalizations per year from gunshots, unequivocally shows otherwise. Not to mention the annual$229 billion hit to our economy from those casualties.

Nope...suicides don't count...since 19,974 suicides were done in 2013 without guns....and Japan, China and South Korea have almost 0 access to guns and have far higher suicide rates than we do....and many European countries with strict gun control.....the kind our gun grabbers only dream about, have higher suicide rates than us...including France....

And the 1,500,000 times a year Americans save lives and stop violent criminal attack saves money....far more than your number....

Yet you want those 1,500,000 people in hospitals, in morgues, raped, robbed and murdered......because you don't want them to be able to use guns to stop the attack.....

The real problem...is the fact that prosecutors and judges let gun criminals walk on gun charges...and they kill when they are released.......

out of the 8,124 gun murders most of those are criminals murdering other criminals....with over 356,991,876 million guns not used to commit murder......in the hands of normal people who don't use guns to commit crime or commit murder.......

And accidental gun deaths....505 in 2013 in a country that at that time had 320 million guns in private hands.....

And gun injuries...about 19,000...

Accidental car deaths......35,000

So the numbers do not support your beliefs......the truth, the facts and the reality show that you are wrong......

In this past week, like Jason Dalton who bought his guns legally and killed six people and hospitalized two others? Like Sarah Hopkins who purchased her guns legally, but probably at the request of Cedric Ford, who later took them from her and killed three and injured 14 others?
It is not true that these things aren't happening more often. By "these things" I mean incidents where innocent people going about their own business are gunned down in the street and at work by men gone mad. These weren't gang members killing gang members or homicides taking place in the "democratic inner city," which you like to blame for the gun violence in this country. These were 'normal' people who exercised their God given right to own killing machines and then took the lives of other 'normal' people they didn't even know.

It is true these things are happening much more frequently. Maybe it's a 'copy cat' phenomenon, maybe it's a disintegrating socio-economic situation that is causing suicidal/homicidal behavior more often, maybe it's just a full moon or a bad stars alignment. But the easy availability of guns to every citizen in this country has huge costs.
