Good brain candy. I always liked this movie.

It's brain candy. There is nothing in this movie that is remotely realistic. It isn't supposed to be.America reduced to guerrilla warfare by an invading army? How is that supposed to be badass? It represented a total failure of national defense. I always found it implausible.
Even the original wasn't that good of a movie. It gets the benefit of nostalgia because of the time it was released in. Communism, the Red scare, Reagan era posturing. It was a feel good movie that had no grounding in reality. As has been stated, it's good popcorn munching fair. Fun fact. Ron O'Neal, who played a Cuban general in the movie, also starred in A Force of One and Superfly.
