This will punish the state of Texas, particularily Houston. New finds below Louisiana in Gulf of Mexico need development and many leases that were approved for drilling will be ceased. This will kill Louisianas economy and and hurt Americans all over the USA. Meanwhile Brazil will advance its offshore efforts along with Russia, and the Chinese will drill in Cuban waters horizontally near Florida siphoning Natural Resources for their energy needs as their economy grows at a substantial rate. This kind of ideology hurts all Americans with higher oil & gas prices with more money drained from America to buy foreign oil, and less jobs in the oil & gas industry. Sarah Palin warned us about this. I don't have to tell you that she would be doing the opposite pertaining to drilling offshore. She would increase it on land as well opening up millions of jobs. I am telling you that Obama is no friend to America. We need to take a stand against this Usurper and revolt against these harmful policies.

The Obama Moratorium: No offshore drilling while he?s in office | Washington Examiner

The Obama administration’s six-month delay in approving new offshore drilling leases in federal waters will become a new three-year ban, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar quietly told reporters last Friday. Which means that no new oil and gas leases will be approved during President Obama’s term even though two –thirds of the American public supports such activity, according to a December 2009 Rasmussen poll.

Sixty percent also believe that gas and oil prices will drop if the government allows offshore drilling, opening up an estimate 14 billion barrels of oil and 55 trillion cubic feet of natural gas

On July 14, 2008 President George W. Bush lifted an executive ban on Outer Continental Shelf leasing. On October 1, 2008, in a bipartisan agreement, Congress lifted another longstanding ban on new oil and gas leasing in the OCS.

Drilling was supposed to begin this July. But Salazar said he intends to discard the 2010-2015 lease plan developed by the Bush administration in favor of a new plan that won’t even go into effect until 2012. “Secretary Salazar has finally confirmed what had long been feared – that the Obama Administration has no intention of opening up new areas for offshore drilling during his four-years in office,”

oh yeah, I just thought about something else....you can kiss those drilling jobs goodbye!!!

thousands more out of work...what a shame

60% BELIEVE oil prices will drop if they drill....

Reality is seldom belief.

well, you gotta admit the "no drill while I'm in office" don't exactly par lay vou with "we must cease to be dependent on foreign oil" another colossal lie for asswipel figures!

But you can't argue with the reality that gas was over 4 bucks a gallon in 08, then dropped like a rock when the offshore lease agreement was signed by Bush.

This contradicts his State O' The Union address during which he called for opening new areas to offshore drilling. It will be interesting when industry reaction hits the news wires.

We are the only nation on earth that prohibits drilling of the outer continental shelf areas. Will it effect gas prices? Most likely not- there's plenty of crude worldwide. Besides, is that the objective- to keep gasoline and heating oil prices low?

all I know is if gasoline gets really high this summer like it did a couple years ago, and people see obama refusing to drill, they are going to get really fucking pissed.
actually they will get really fucking pissed if gasoline goes way up whether obama is drilling or not.

It would take 10 years ONLY because of the bullshit red-tape Progressives put on any activity that involves making a profit. When the American people take back our Country there are going to be a lot of Progressives stunned by what we're going to do about their "regulations" and controls.

Well well well...it's another "let's piss off the American people really good day".

what "American people"? The ones who wouldn't vote for him if he turned water into wine? And it would take 10 years at best for drilling to be of any value to us.

And even then, it's effect would be negligible.

Hey there sweet Darlin, think of the jobs, even for the ones that didn't vote for him. Think of the children...:(

hold on to your hats...the price of gas is about to go through the roof

Hey there won't be any drilling of any of our own resources--& this congress & administration is also determined not to bill any nuclear power plants either. The only time they speak of it--is when the camera & micro-phone is turned on. Not one single penny in the 787 porkulus bill was dedicated to nuclear power.

Energy independance for this country is just another broken promise.
We still stimulate foreign countries that sell us energy. Nothing new here.

From inception to production, the largest of projects may take 10 years but that's the exception not the norm.

Why does a farmer who owns 100 acres even bother to grow food? We don't need it and the contribution is surely neglibible.

There are hundreds of thousands of land-based oilwells in this country, pumping an average of 3 barrels per day each. Many were drilled decades ago. Yet collectively they provide millions of jobs and contribute billions to the economy.

Whether oil comes from within our boundaries or from overseas will remain a critical issue well into the future. Obama is rediculously short-sighted when it comes offshore drilling.

...and the children of children of children- the oil finders of today. The majority of companies operating in the U.S. are small family owned businesses, going back 4 and 5 generations. Even offshore, a large portion of activity is done by "independent" producers.

Here's a publication that provides an in-depth look at these people...

And another, "Oil and Gas In Your State"

One of the major selling points of ethanol and biodeisel is "for every gallon made, that's one less gallon of imported oil". Folks fell for it and are paying a hefty price for such programs.

Why is it so difficult for people to understand that every barrel of U.S. oil replaces a like amount of imports... without the direct government subsidies?
