They didn't "go with" the nazi at all. Jones, as well as the candidates in the other hopeless Chicago districts were self-selected and self financed. And since Illinois is an open primary state, any Democrat can also go in and ask for the GOP ballot to give it to this character.
Okay, except there was no reason for them to do so and give up their right to select a governor candidate, where we had quite an interesting race there...
Nope, the 22,000 Republicans who said, "We are totally cool with a Nazi" were Republicans, through and through.
Sure. Sure.. You just like to post Nazi pics.. Makes you feel important and powerful...
No, actually, I'm kind of saddened the GOP has become the home for these guys. You see, when David Duke became a thing in the 1990's, the GOP pulled out every stop to block him. Today, you have a Republican President calling them "Good People'.
This bigoted fool should receive ZERO votes,” Cruz declared.
yet he got 56,000 votes.
Such is the STUPIDITY of Repubs. Would have cost them less court time and advertising and grief to SIMPLY RUN A CANDIDATE.. They're massive idiots.
Or maybe make their party a place where racists like Jones would feel unwelcome... That would be a good idea, too.
You see, the real problem here is the inherent racism of the GOP. It has in effect become a White Identity Party. From Nixon's Southern Strategy to Reagan's Welfare Queens to Bush's Willie Horton Ad to just about everything that comes out of Trump's mouth, the GOP Message is designed to tell white folks that it's you against them.
So why wouldn't a Nazi like Arthur Jones feel right at home and 56,000 Republicans feel comfortable voting for him over a moderate/conservative Democrat?
