As Supreme Court considers affirmative action, colleges see few other ways to diversity goals
After bans on affirmative action in states from California to Florida, colleges have tried a range of strategies to achieve a diverse student body. Many have given greater preference to

It is said that if the USSC outlaws "affirmative action," the colleges will have few tools to meet their "diversity" goals.
Let's think about that.
What are the legitimate "goals" of higher education? Basically, it for them to teach, and for "us" to learn relevant information. That's it. It might be accounting information, historical information, engineering information, information about human psychology or sociology, or an infinite number of other subjects. But colleges are not put there to have "us" experience social phenomena.
In fact, nobody goes to college hoping to learn what it's like to sit in a classroom with people of other races and ethnicities., especially if those people have not gained entrance to the college through MERIT [There's that word again]. No parent sends his kid to college for that reason either. And there can be no doubt that introducing students of a lower academic caliber makes the education part of it a little less rigorous and beneficial.
Indeed, there is no legitimate academic justification for "affirmative action," or "diversity." It MIGHT have a social justification, but that is not the reason why colleges and universities exist. If students - or anyone - wants to have the experience of intermingling with people of other races and ethnicities, there are lots of ways of doing so, many of which involve the consumption of adult beverages. But there are other venues where people can mix. That is not the purpose of higher education. Enrich your life on your own dime, if that's your goal.
The only justification for "diversity" initiatives on campus is to make Leftist faculty and staff feel better about themselves. Which is bullshit.
Thank God for Donald Trump. He made it possible for the USSC to recover its sanity.
