The left can get downright vile. Sessions was holding his own granddaughter. He picked her up after she was frightened by camera flashes. He is not the first person to have family attend confirmation hearings. The left is just freaking out because we have yet another Republican who has mixed race or minority children or grandchildren. It just doesn't fit the left's narrative and people on the right are always attacked for this.
They said nothing when Kerry had his grandkid:

The House, the Senate, governorships across the country and state governments. So, the left's response is to keep up the same shit that caused this to happen. "There is no reason for that child to be in his lap in a hearing other than to send an "I'm not racist message"
