The GOPS southern Southern strategy

1. The thread is an attempt to claim that the Democratic Party isn't the party of slavery and segregation ....

Democrats 100 years ago,
or 50 years ago, or anytime in the past, were racists and segregationists,..

It seems it is so very important to cloud history by defaming those who actually fought slavery and racist: the Republicans.

a. Dixiecrats lost in 1948 (64 years ago)....then went right back to being Democrats.

2. Let's take a look at the most popular Democrat today, and see what we can find....

a. Governor Clinton was among three state officials the NAACP sued in 1989 under the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. “Plaintiffs offered plenty of proof of monolithic voting along racial lines, intimidation of black voters and candidates and other official acts that made voting harder for blacks,” the Arkansas Gazette reported December 6, 1989.

b. Bill Clinton had a Confederate flag-like issue, every year he was governor: Arkansas Code Annotated, Section 1-5-107, provides as follows:

(a) The Saturday immediately preceding Easter Sunday of each year is designated as ‘Confederate Flag Day’ in this state.

(b) No person, firm, or corporation shall display an Confederate flag or replica thereof in connection with any advertisement of any commercial enterprise, or in any manner for any purpose except to honor the Confederate States of America. [Emphasis added.]

(c) Any person, firm, or corporation violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not less than one hundred dollars ($100) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).

Bill Clinton took no steps during his twelve years as governor to repeal this law.

3. (BTW...Orval Eugene Faubus, attended Bill Clinton’s 1979 gubernatorial inauguration, where the two pols hugged, as Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editorial page editor Paul Greenberg recalls.)
Know who Faubus was?
Yup...he used the National Guard to prevent blacks from going to school

4. Bill Clinton wrote his first letter, dated June 21, 1994, of congratulations to the UDC [Untied Daughters of the Confederacy] celebrating their 100th anniversary. Later Clinton wrote a letter September 8, 1994 letter of congratulation to the Georgia Division of the UDC celebrating their 100th anniversary, then August 9, 1995 welcoming to Washington, D.C. for their 1995 national convention. Each letter was given a full page with Clinton’s picture in the United Daughters of the Confederacy Magazine (UDC Magazine) giving legitimacy to the UDC.

For reference, the UDC magazine includes " a Ku Klux Klan praising book, not just the Klan of Reconstruction but the Klan of the 1920s, a book which recommends the racist books of Thomas Dixon, “The Clansman” ...
Anti-Neo-Confederate: Bill Clinton Enables Neo-Confederates & Betrays Carol Moseley-Braun: UPDATED

a. "Clinton praised Arkansas’ late Democratic senator J. William Fulbright, a notorious segregationist who opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. He also signed the Southern Manifesto, which denounced the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Brown vs. Board of Education school desegregation decision in 1954. Clinton called Fulbright “My mentor, a visionary, a humanitarian.”Dems Need to Houseclean - Deroy Murdock - National Review Online

and....

Fulbright was a full-bore segregationist, voting against the 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1965 civil rights bills.
But...in 1993, Bill Clinton gave the Medal of Freedom award to a lifelong segregationist, Democrat Wm. J. Fulbright. And another life-long segregationist, Democrat Albert Gore, Sr. was in attendance.

Hey...didn't Bill Clinton just recently speak at the Democrat National Convention?

… President Bill Clinton
argued that Colin Powell, promoted
to brigadier general during Mr.
Alexander’s tenure, was the product
of an affirmative action program.

So....why refer to ancient history, you know, the slavery/segreation history of the party that prevented every anti-lynching bill that came up in the Senate: that is the Democrat Party.

Let's concentrate on the current icon, the rapist, Bill Clinton.

Colin Powell’s former chief of staff: GOP is ‘full of racists’

Surprised you never learned this rule of life,....

Reality is defined by actions, not by words.

Immediately: laminate the above and put it in your wallet!
'Else, you may embarrass yourself further.

That means that what the racist-rapist Clinton has done....

...represents reality....

...less so, what anyone says.

But....I've seen your attempts at posting.....

....no shock that you have difficulty understanding the real world.

Strange (some who comes from as one of your, Michael savage says) a turd world country would side with the racists:eusa_whistle:

Try to obfuscate all you like, jerk....

This is my country.

"....side with the racists..."
I just proved that the Democrats are the racists, dolt.

Why is it you never seem able to respond to the post you've linked?

You’ve heard the phrase “how the other half lives…”? I see you as exactly that…the ‘other half’ of posters.\
My question: how do you derive any satisfaction by posting without any substance?
What is it that you believe you bring to the table?

You post some mindless Liberal prattle....is that redundant?.....and wander off like the pic in your avi.

Stick around and fight, coward.

No one here denies that the Democratic Party until the 1960s had bad race history, which began to change only slightly in the 1930s (the fair employment requirements for federal contracts with unions), Truman's beginning to integrate the Armed Forces (leading to the Dixiecrat revolt), and Kennedy/Johnson and Civil Rights.

But since the Civil Rights, the ancient history is . . . old . . . has nothing to do with the Dems today.

We Republicans need to accept that fact and reach out to minorities honestly.

Or we will continue to lose national elections.

ps: if we don't, eventually the southwest will go democratic and we will lose our hold on the House.

"Or we will continue to lose national elections." In the famous words of Tonto to the Lone Ranger, as the Indians attacked....'What's this "we," white man?"' Everyone knows the truth, Jakal.

We mainstream Republicans are not going to allow the libertarian and reactionary wings to hurt us next year.

They try, we will crush them.

Have you finished your jog around the mental facility....the psycho-path?

Is it merely my perception that you spend your posts attacking Republicans, smoothing the way for Obama....

.....and then claiming "We mainstream Republicans..."?

Nah.

“If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck”

That makes you a Smerconish-Republican.

Ms Psycho Chic is babbling and waiting for her nightly injection.

The mises scum and other reactionaries have nothing of worth for the Republican Party.

Tough that.

Somebody put a stop payment order on your reality check.

It has become clear that you've been sitting in the right pew, but the wrong church.

Psycho Chic and Bucktooth think they can change the mainstream GOP. They have had almost 20 years and have failed.

Good. :D

And why the GOP is nothing more today then a regional bible thumping racist party

That the GOP’s Southern Strategy was predicated on racism is beyond dispute.

Was that racism sanctioned or condoned officially by the GOP? No.

Does this mean that all republicans are racist? No.

Does this mean all Southerners are racist? No.

But the Strategy allowed the GOP to take advantage of racial animosity among a significant number of voters in the South to the extent that these voters were more likely to vote for republican candidates as opposed to democratic. It allowed the GOP to create the myth among many Southerners that the Democratic Party was concerned only for minorities, while ignoring the problems of whites.

Voters motivated by race, therefore, when added to social conservatives and Christian fundamentalists, made for a powerful, dependable voting block for the GOP that republicans couldn’t resist, a voting block they used to end the democrats’ control of Congress.

And again, this raises a difficult issue for republicans, as to why many racists feel comfortable in the GOP, and why racists are more prone to vote for republican candidates.

The Southern White voters that reclaimed the South from the Democrats did not vote Republican because they were motivated by race. They voted Republican because they were sick of what the Democrat party had done to the South.

Nixon's Southern strategy was not racist. It conceded the Black vote to the Democrats, and went after the White vote. It is not racist to recognize reality, and spend your time and energy where you have the best chance of being successful.

Your ignorant opinion to the contrary, racists are equally comfortable in both parties, and vote for Democrats as well as Republicans.

No. You are not a Republican. Not by a long shot. Let's end that here and now. You reek of a closet liberal. And you display all the symptoms of classic schizophrenia. "I'm this, but I'm that too."

As Tonto put it (thank you Chic) "Uhh...who do you mean we, pale-face?"

Affirmative Action laws made the GOP's Southern Strategy viable.

That is why I brought it up in this thread

Republicans say, "How dare anyone saying we are racist. We just point out that peanut eating black people are stupid and lazy and only want handouts. That doesn't make us racist."

Actually the racists have always been the democrat party. It was the democrats who were Ku Klux Klan. Not republicans. The largest plantation owners - slave owners of the South - Democrats. The meanest bullies hunting down black children for sport, again the stories prove they came from democrat families. Consistently. It was the democrats that wanted mass genocide on the black babies - look up Margaret Sanger - one of your own party members - democrat again - it is the democrats who came up with the plan to send the black people to wars to kill them off put them on the front lines, not republicans, it is the democrats who continue to rob the poor in Detroit - New York, inner cities where the progressive liberals have held control of social issues for over 100 years according to David Horowitz - look him up - and in that time only made it worse. Look in the mirror for the racists. It is the Democrats. Not the Republican Party. Your party is a party of very prolific liars. Nothing more.

NOTE* I have recently learned the NRA was formed to stop the democrat Klu Klux Klan and to protect the African american people from your group. I believe the Republicans definitely need to do a better job of getting the true history and story of the democrat party out there to the American people. It's time.

I think a bit too much is made of that.

The term "Southern Strategy" really comes from Nixon's supposed plan to beat McGovern in 1972... but the fact was, McGovern was so inept that Nixon won 49 states.

The better way to understand it is to put it in context.

The 1960's really changed our image of the cultural landscape. WOmen weren't going to stay in the kitchen, blacks weren't going to ride on the back of the bus and gays weren't goign to stay in the closet.

And for a lot of people, that was scary. Not because they were racist or misogynistic or homophobic, necessarily, but because frankly, change is scary. People don't like things that are different.

And frankly, every movement produces its radicals that were just plain scary. Put all that on top of opposition to a really unpopular war, you have the ingredients for a cultural divide.

Nixon and later Reagan got people to vote against their own economic interests by playing on fear of that change.

The problem is the GOP kept hitting that button after the dust settled.

 He's right there is no mythical, but it is fact and reality.

Not true at all. Your party was hijacked by the communists inside CFR & other NGO's. Your own party member Congressman Larry McDonald warned you about what what happening to the Democrat Party and you ignored him. Now look at where you are at. You will be known in the pages of history as the party who destroyed America. Where will you go once the dollar is gone & life in America is equivalent of life in Kenya slum? Have got any plans yet? Do tell.

We are putting an end to any pretense by a libertarian or reactionary to say who is a Republican. Simply will not happen. The freaks from the far right cost the GOP the last two national elections and that will not happen again.

What was that supposed to be Jake? You do not belong to either of the two. You language does not suit such. It's time you carried on with your life and accepted your new found liberalism.

Labeling people from the right as "freaks who cost the GOP the last two elections" is a bit disingenuous, and quite telling. There needs to be a third party in this country, because both parties have now become wrought with corruption and deception. To favor them is to favor those things.

Call me a freak if you wish, but I stand with the silent majority, you, with a vocal minority who insists on making anyone out with an nontraditional point of view out as a traitor to their beliefs or their country. You are an unnatural noise, Jake. You and your kind are the real detriment to the success and prosperity of America.

Sure. If that is what what you believe then, so be it. I will let you submerge yourself in the sea of cognitive dissonance, to be led along like a lamb to the slaughter.

The last two elections were lost by the Establishment foisting candidates on the base that they really didn't want.

The rank and file didn't want McCain in 2008, and they didn't want Romney in 2012.

They were told to "Fall in Line", and they didn't, really.

Kind of hard to get others enthusastic about your guy when you aren't.

In McCain's case, he couldn't bring himself to say the Iraq War was a huge fuckup. In a country that was sick of that war, no only did that mean he wouldn't get us out of it, he might get us into another one.

In Romney's case, he couldn't bring himself to say the insatiable greed of his Wall Street brethren was the cause of the recession. Which meant people couldn't trust him.

It's not about idealogy, it's about trust.

The GOP could probalby win in 2016 if they found a candidate from a working-class background who got it that a bad economy means having to chose between food and medicine, not between a dressage pony and a yacht.

Not that I have any love for the religious nutters, but they aren't the problem here. The establishment is.
