The artisans and contractors' light trucks are not a threat to anything (though even here reasonable hp should apply). Even some trailer and boat towing is relatively benign. The major thing is the short commutes with only one or two people that take up so much fuel and time. With oil consuming engines being only at most 50% fuel efficient and then adding in the amount of time they turn stopped in traffic caused by so many of them, the waste and pollution are massive. What is even more is that these are so often enormous, heavy, overpowered tanks. This sector of vehicle use is what needs to be addressed most. Draconian measures such as the total elimination of internal combustion engines are ridiculous and certain to cause rebellion. That is not intelligent. Encouraging a reformation of thinking about what a vehicle is for and how it can accomplish its task will get us much closer to genuine advancement.
