I just wanted to check and see what you guys are having out for Thanksgiving this year, I am doing a Turkey and a ham this year, as well as collard greens, black eyed peas, yams, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, rolls and lots and lots of brown gravy and mushroom gravy, as well as a few apple pies, what are y'all having?

I'm crashing your party. :D

There's a new restaurant that opened nearby so we're ponying up to their buffet.
Then off to my brother's in the evening for a home-cooked spread.
I'm bringing the green bean casserole.

LMAO I live in Birmingham Alabama.

I wanted to try this Greek recipe for Turkey but I don't have the time today to go and grab all the ingredients, I like Greek food so I think this would be a good dish for me to make, I will probably give this a go for Xmas or next Thanksgiving.

Greek Traditional Turkey with Chestnut and Pine Nut Stuffing Recipe - Allrecipes.com

Ingredients
1 cup chestnuts 2/3 cup butter 1/4 cup orange juice 1/4 cup tangerine juice 2/3 cup lemon juice 1 (10 pound) whole turkey salt and ground black pepper to taste 1/2 pound ground beef 1/2 pound ground pork 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup uncooked instant rice 1/4 cup pine nuts 1/4 cup raisins (optional) 1/3 cup butter 1/2 cup chicken broth 2 tablespoons brandy 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
Make a small incision on sides of each chestnut, and place in a skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring often, until toasted. Remove from heat, peel, and chop.
Melt 2/3 cup butter in a saucepan, and mix in the orange juice, tangerine juice, and lemon juice. Rub the turkey inside and out with the mixture, reserving some for basting. Season turkey with salt and pepper.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, ground pork, and onion until beef and pork are evenly brown and onion is tender. Drain grease. Mix in the rice. Stir in the chestnuts, pine nuts, raisins, 1/3 cup butter, broth, and brandy. Season with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Continue cooking until all liquid has been absorbed. Stuff all turkey cavities with the mixture, and tie in place with kitchen twine.
Place turkey on a rack in a roasting pan, and loosely cover breast and thighs with aluminum foil. Pour about 1/4 inch water into the bottom of the pan. Maintain this level of water throughout cook time. Roast turkey in the preheated oven 3 to 4 hours, brushing occasionally with remaining butter and juice mixture. Increase oven temperature to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) during final hour of roasting, and remove foil. Cook turkey to a minimum internal temperature of 180 degrees F (82 degrees C).

I'm eating with friends, so it could be anything...

I'm fairly certain we're having turkey.
I'm bringing a scalloped corn dish and a pie. I don't know if I'll bring pecan or apple or both.

Presumably we'll have mashed potatoes, but it's about the people and not the food, so whatever it is, we'll enjoy it.

then I'll make dinner on Saturday, I think...

Turkey, dressing, mashed tatoes, candied sweet potatoes (not yams), cranberry sauce, giblet gravy, scalloped corn, pumpkin pie, apple pie, rolls, shrimp salad, some green veggie...either green beans or broccoli.

traditional dinner here: turkey breast, wild rice, sweet potato casserole, broccoli spelt rolls....i hope they turn out....apps: brie and crackers and fruit...dessert, ....pumpkin pie, pecan pie and brandy balls....

wine and beer.....

There's a rice-a-roni/shrimp curry casserole that I was crazy for for a while, makes a good side, good hot or cold...

I haven't made it in years..nobody in my family likes curry! It's rice a roni (chicken is best), cashews, artichoke hearts, frozen tiny shrimp, curry, maybe some other stuff, I don't remember, mix it up...very good stuff.

I know, nobody is and it makes a huge batch. Which I can eat all by myself, given enough time.

I thought about carrots too, but that's a lot of sweet yellow/orange stuff with the candied sweet potatoes...hence the broccoli.

You just reminded me Kosher, we will be having scalloped potatoes tomorrow as well.:eusa_drool:
