Has terrorism scarred the human psyche to the point where our storytelling/folklore has irrevocably changed?
Here's an omen inspired by Spy Game.

A paramilitary-crusader working for the American military unit known as 'G.I. Joe' named Officer Flint was ordered to take the Cobra-terrorist hostage known as Baroness to an idyllic countryside where he was to discuss with her the value of democracy and peace, but instead he started falling in love with her!
As their heavenly romance ensued in their special vacation-cottage in that countryside, a group of poisonous mechanical red-ants (sent by Cobra to kill the Baroness) infiltrated their cottage. Flint carried Baroness safely out of the cottage but not before she was bitten. Flint took her to the G.I. Joe hospital where tests were conducted and where her treatment began. She would be fine, but Officer Flint swore revenge!
G.I. Joe commander Duke explained to Flint that Cobra was developing a terrible new matrix-oriented brainwashing program designed to create so much psychological fear and panic that it would induce mass suicides. Duke told Flint that if he really wanted revenge, he could take up the mission to infiltrate the Cobra underwater base near San Diego and destroy this new 'matrix-machine' which was part of a program called Cyberdyne Systems. Flint took the mission!
Cobra's new super-cyborg soldier known simply as Cyborg was busy mating with his 'cyborg-queen' a female pleasure-model named Maria. Cyborg was Cobra's ultimate soldier/killer. Flint infiltrated the Cobra base beneath the California shoreline and discovered all this!
Cobra meanwhile sent a missile to California's San Andreas earthquake fault-line, causing a terrible earthquake which G.I. Joe field-soldiers Rock and Princess were assigned to deal with (since they were in California at the time). Rock wondered how Flint was doing...
Cobra wanted to distribute a series of propaganda-comics called "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" meant to indoctrinate the children of the world! The villainous Cobra leader Serpentor wanted also to institute Communism in Third World countries and use these comics in the classroom to teach impoverished children about the 'value' of martial law.
Was the world changing? Was terrorism creating a radical shift in human consciousness? Where were the great tales of civilization-development from the past such as Virgil's Aeneid? Would Flint realize that the evil of Cobra's new 'soldier/killer' Cyborg was somehow a reflection of the AntiChrist? Where was the magic of democracy?
A Cobra defector named 'Cobra' (since he was just a drone-soldier or 'minion') rescued a female-hostage from one of the Cobra base prison-cells. Her name was Diana, and she was taken hostage from Iceland and used as a 'pleasure-slave,' but Cobra the ex-minion fell in love with her. Flint crossed paths with Cobra and Diana and decided to help them!
As Serpentor prepared to distribute the special G.I. Joe vs. Cobra comics, he had one of his grunt-artists generate a story about a G.I. Joe soldier named Michigan abandoning his military-unit so he could retire safely with his wife Scarlett (a female soldier of G.I. Joe!). The story was meant to circulate the lie that even G.I. Joes hated the 'crusade against terrorism' and were themselves seeking some kind of 'escapist-revolution.'
As Serpentor continued on his 'creativity-campaign,' Flint successfully helped Diana and the ex-minion Cobra escape the Cobra base but not before he completely destroyed the Cyberdyne operating-system in the main computing-room! Serpentor was enraged and ordered that chemical weapons be fired upon the White House. G.I. Joe commander Duke ordered that the U.S. President and First Lady be escorted away from the White House before the terrorist-attack happened (it was the ex-minion Cobra and his rescued-lover Diana who informed G.I. Joe of this plan!). You see, the ex-minion and Cobra overheard Serpentor say, "If G.I. Joe enrages me, I'll drop biochemical weapons on the White House lawn!" Fortunately, Flint had his transmitter-radio and called Duke to tell him of this plan after Cyberdyne's operating-system was ruined.
Duke and the G.I. Joes would finally subdue Cobra. and Flint and Baroness finally married and retired peacefully. However, G.I. Joe continued to deal with terrorism --- mainly the radical Islamic group ISIS. The defecting ex-minion Cobra and his rescued-lover Diana enjoyed their own retirement, watching episodes of Modern Family on TV in their cottage in Hawaii!
GOD: Terrorism (e.g., 9/11, 1972 Munich) has changed folklore...
SATAN: Modernism is confounded by anarchy and terror.
GOD: Perhaps technology will create optimism!
SATAN: I wonder what the legacy of Cyberdyne will be.
GOD: Cyberdyne was destroyed by Flint.
SATAN: Flint retired and married Baroness; he doesn't care.
GOD: I'm sure Duke cares about how new terrorists will coordinate 'new tech.'
SATAN: "Can't we all just...get along?"
GOD: I think terrorism and eco-pollution are the real maladies.
SATAN: You're correct; they're the poisonous serpents of civilization.
GOD: I also hate biochemical warfare; it's worse than nuclear warfare!
SATAN: That's arguably true; maybe there should be movies about G.I. Joe.
GOD: I'd like to see Tom Cruise portray Duke.
SATAN: Nah, he's too old...
