While indeed somebody can be fooled by fake or miscaptioned photos, sharks have been observed swimming up the Mississippi for awhile and are frequently spotted in the Amazon. Most shark attacks occur in 6 to 10 feet of water but large sharks have been known to attack in 3 feet of water or less and small ones need only a meter of water. Maybe Cruz was a bit gullible. But certainly many of us have fallen for fake photos, memes, quotations, etc. as well. Not a big deal.

(Sharks also can survive for quite some time--some for years--in fresh water.)
