Examples of famous grape varieties:

Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Merlot etc etc

Have you got any favourite grape variety or varieties?

Over 8000 varieties and mixing red and white etc is pointless . Explain how major variety differences are a function of soil type and climate . Something interesting. Explain relative suitability for different foods .

Usually I make a list and a poll.

But this time I will just ask generally:

Which varieties do you like - in general? :)

I wouldn't know about Chardonnay (because I never knowingly drank one) - so from the ones I know my favorite would be a Riesling.

Long time ago, I had a 1978 Châteauneuf-du-Pape - it tasted fantastic and exquisite, any other Châteauneuf-du-Pape tasted like yuk and eek.

Interesting might be to talk about wine - specific wines - as to what made or makes them good - rather then asking what wines do you like?

Same here, exaxtly!
I would agree to ABB = Anything but Chardonnay. :)
What i like - among many others: Riesling and Gewürztraminer
and Pinot Noir and Carménère and Zinfandel :)

As to that - that's a difficult question. :)
And I would often not know the answer.
Only that I like these wines.

Sorry I still don't get the meaning of such a Thread

You like Coca Cola or Pepsi Cola? I mean who cares? unless one want's to make a point in proofing/discussing that e.g. Pepsi Cola will kill you faster then Coca Cola or vice versa.
But hey it's up to you.

Sorry - I can of course say, WHY I personally like those wines.
What I want to avoid is something like a universal judgement.
I can only speak for my personal taste.

I will try:

Gewürztraminer smells and tastes of roses - and I like that.
