The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) is struggling to hold on to their last parcels of land on Sakr Island (Haweeja Al-Sakr), as the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard continues its offensive in this strategic area. Earlier today, the 104th Brigade captured the western bank fisheries on Sakr Island after hours of violent clashes near the Euphrates River; this small port was used by ISIS to travel back and forth from the island to the mainland.

Following the capture of the fisheries, the 104th Brigade discovered a small network of tunnels that ISIS fighters forced civilians on the island to dig. The 104th Brigade found these civilians underground, along with 6 ISIS fighters who later surrendered. Inside one of the tunnels was a large amount of antibiotics and surgical equipment stolen from Iraq; this was coalesced with containers of fake passports with Turkish stamps.
