Syrian Army repels massive jihadist counteroffensive in south Aleppo: Field Report

"Aleppo, Syria (11:33 P.M.) – Militants from the jihadist coalition of Jaish Al-Fateh launched their largest counter-attack on the Syrian Army’s positions in Tal Um Al-Qara’ mobilizing many armored vehicles, tanks, and battalions for the offensive.

Unfortunately for them, the elite fighters of the SAA’s Tiger Forces had fortified their positions immaculately and fended off the hours-long attack without conceding an inch of territory. Notably, the aforementioned hill lies on top of the Khan Touman – Ramousah supply route rendering the road completely obsolete.

Seven tanks and armored vehicles, and a VBIED were destroyed in the failed assault that killed dozens of militants and injured many more. A BMP along with 3 tanks were captured after the fighters manning it escaped. This attack was reportedly their largest yet on the hill.

It is apparent that the Tiger Forces set up a trap similar to the one they utilized in the Mallah Farms and the Cement Plant to repel the jihadist attacks and render them suicidal. This was their sixth failed assault so far on the hill the has proven to be a thorn in their throats.

It is unclear if the militants would give up on capturing the imperative hill; however, all their gains in southwest Aleppo have practically become useless due to their logistical inability to reinforce and supply their front lines in Ramousah and east Aleppo. This military development may cause Jaish Al-Fateh commanders to consider abandoning Ramousah and its adjacent base in favor of re-drawing plans and considering other offensives.

Southwest Aleppo has become a rebel kill-zone under the intense barrage of artillery shelling, airstrikes, and MLRS targeting; it may be suicidal to persist on holding onto it given the lack of a real supply route through Ramousah in the first place.

The developments in Aleppo in the coming weeks will certainly shape the directory of the Syrian conflict in northwestern Syria for the remainder of the war."
