New syphilis cases spike in S.F.

The vast majority of early syphilis cases - about 97 percent - occurred in men, and more than 90 percent involved men who had sex with men, according to the Health Department. More than 70 percent of cases occurred among men who are HIV positive.

"If you have HIV-positive men having unprotected sex with other HIV-positive men as a conscious decision to reduce the rate of HIV transmission ... and if they're not aware of syphilis, you have the unintended consequence of rising rates of syphilis," said Steve Gibson, director of Magnet, a sexual health center for gay men in the Castro and a program of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

The health consequences of sodomite sex is a disturbing reality.

Unless you're gay and trolling for sex in San Francisco, who cares?

Actually, you tried this post before and if you really look at the data, you find that 75 counties in the US had no syphilis at all,
    however,
the highest rates were in the deep south and the south east. Syphilis was at it's lowest infection rate since 1941 all they way up until the year 2000, when funding was cut for sex education, except for "abstinence only", which of course, the effectiveness has been debatable with government statistics showing it to a terrible failure, like most Republican policies, if not all.

Considering that gays are probably only 3% of the entire US population, not sure why you are fixated on them. Something about them must be awfully fascinating to you.

Syphilis prevention efforts by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are guided by science-based, community-oriented, culturally specific strategies. Our current project aims to help with these prevention efforts by examining past and current responses of the public and private health sectors, and of communities themselves, to the epidemic of early syphilis in the southern states since 1988. The project focuses on people perceived to be at highest risk for syphilis infection, the extent to which public health activities target such a category or group, and to what effect. It also aims to uncover innovative approaches to primary prevention and the cultural sensitivities that can affect the success of interventions.

We selected four southern states for a comparative case study: Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

    D1.2 Background

From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, early syphilis morbidity has been reported disproportionately in the southern US, particularly among African-American populations. Figure D.1 shows the national trend for reported cases of primary and secondary syphilis by race and ethnicity from 1981 through 1991. Syphilis rates increased across the US from 1986 through 1990, beginning to decline in 1991 in all regions except the Midwest. The highest rates of syphilis were found in the southern states throughout this period. In 1991, the highest rates of primary and secondary syphilis were reported from: Louisiana (70.0 cases per 100,000 population), Mississippi (48.0), Georgia (45.6), South Carolina (43.8), and Alabama (39.4) (US PHS, CDC, 1992).

In 1981, all but two of ten southern states had syphilis rates higher than the Year 2000 objective (10 cases per 100,000 population). States in other regions of the country were closer to achieving this objective: less than one-half of the northeastern states exceeded the Year 2000 objective, while only one-third of the midwestern states, and no states in the west exceeded this objective.

High morbidity continues in the South. As Table D.1 shows, by 1993 only one southern State (Florida) was at or below the Year 2000 objective. African Americans, particularly in the South, have suffered a disproportionate burden of early syphilis and its adverse outcome, congenital syphilis. In 1993, the rate for African Americans was almost 62 times greater than for whites.

Original image lost. See Table 22 in 1993 STD Surveillance Report.CDC has supported state-based syphilis prevention programs by providing grant awards and personnel resources to state and local health departments for more than 30 years. CDC's support has aimed to bolster clinic-based case detection, treatment, partner notification, and other prevention activities. High syphilis morbidity rates persist, however, despite these measures.

    I especially liked this part:
African Americans, particularly in the South, have suffered a disproportionate burden of early syphilis and its adverse outcome, congenital syphilis. In 1993, the rate for African Americans was almost 62 times greater than for whites

It always cracks me up when people go on about the "gays" and their "rampant sexual lifestyle".

50% of straight marriages end in divorce. It's estimated that up to 20% of couples have tried "swinging". But it's difficult to find statistics since most couple won't admit they "swing".

However, there was an interesting observation:

The number of “swinger hotels” in the world is truly amazing. One would have the impression that there wouldn’t be that many. Just take a drive down the information highway, and the amount of information is quite abundant. There are “swinger hotels” in nearly every state of the United States, and nearly every foreign country. Not only are “swinger hotels” available but also actual vacation packages for the swinger. These packages are not for the faint of heart, but actual swingers, and people who want that type of lifestyle.

'Swinger Hotels And 'Swinger Dating' The Adult Vacation.

Of course, there are probably many more swingers than gays. After all, gays only make up about 3% of the population.
But it's so fun to hate the gays because the Bible says they should be killed.

Idiot pay attention and look at the title thread, its talking about gays in San Francisco, you pro-gay idiots like to dismiss any evidence that doesn't fit the gay agenda. You ignored the fact that most of these are gay HIV positive men having unprotected sex sodomite sex with other HIV positive sodomites, but no no, thats not seen as risky homosexual behavior is it? Its dangerous and downright wrong to have unprotected sex when you know yourself that you're HIV positive but these sodomites just don't care.
