are macaques using stone tools?

do we have an "animal rights" forum, because this needs to be on the radar.

if, as this article indicate, macaques are teaching their young to make and use stone tools, they have entered a paleolithic era.

that alone entitles them to, i think, extraordinary protection , not only as endangered or threatened species (macaques usually don't qualify) but as fully sentient beings.

should we help them along? or should we enact some kind of "prime directive?."

my instinct is to allow them to make their own mistakes.

Question the report .
From memory, several types of bird use pebbles etc as tools .
Mainly as "hammers" for breaking food shells .

these monkeys are knapping the stone, and teaching their children to do so.

those parrots, ravens and such are fairly impressive as well.

Maybe only indirectly relevant to your topic , have you seen Orcas teach their young how to work within a pack for kills and therefore food?
Not tool related but brilliant within an environment with almost zero potential tool availability .
Likely sound guidance from varying pressure when they exhale .

the mere 3 dimensional navigation and processing of echolocation requires an incredible amount of knowledge as well.

cetaceans all communicate , and i'm sure we're communicating fairly well with our dolphin corps.

my position may be extreme, but how about protecting every species (which may well include population control)

kind of a right to life movement

How to hunt sting ray?

I've been fishing off similar coast as Orca cruise past hunting sting rays in close. I've never seen them use rocks.

They're extremely intimidating up close.

Video unavailable over here but nobody has suggested Orcas use rocks .
The subject broadly is about non human IQ and communication .
One obvious positive way being animals "creating " and using tools .
My Orca illustration is in the field of family and group communication .

The bold words also apply to me but only when truly angry . Which is rare .

This one, then, in the same Orca vein. Though here the other vid can be watched only on YouTube. It's an excellent training film.
