President-elect Donald Trump has been criticized for not complying with the traditional practice of United States presidential candidates releasing their tax returns during the campaign.

Former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) released his tax returns in the summer of 2015, as did Hillary Clinton.

“Voters were denied an important perspective on the candidate’s potential conflicts of interests as well as their financial well-being and how much he gave to charity,” Hoylman said

---------------------------

Hillary has been investigated by the CIA, the FBI, many congressional investigations. Her family has been investigated. Every single bit of her life has been investigated. Even emails about her daughter's marriage.
She was the most vetted candidate in US History.

But Trump? We know almost nothing about him. We only know his business dealings from the many lawsuits. It was only a single reporter that got the Trump Foundation shut down. He said he was 300 million in debt, but investigations uncovered that it was over 650 million. It could even be more. We would know a lot more about him if he released his Tax returns. Like everyone else has.

Hey, if he is legit, he has nothing to fear. Even Republicans should agree with that.

New Bill Aims to Force Trump To Release Tax Returns By 2020

Ron Wyden Pushes Bill To Force Presidential Candidates To Release Tax Returns

There are multiple bills at federal and state level.

I'm embarrassed to have to explain this. It's so, well, "simple".

It's kind of like being a public figure. If Republicans smeared a regular person who never ran for public office, they could be sued for defamation of character. No hiding behind free speech on that one. But since Hillary is a public figure, they know they could slander her again and again and get away with it. And they did.

So the IRS is not allowed to release someone's tax info without their permission. But there is no law against making a law that requires someone to release their tax returns before an election. Americans have a right to know everything about a candidate before the election. I'm sure you wouldn't want to elect someone with a dangerous background. Or would you?
I wouldn't.
Trump claims to have have lost a billion dollars in a year. That's a lot of money. More likely, he included the loses of his investors, which of course, is illegal. But who would know? Unless he opened his taxes to the public. Also we would know how much he was paid by the Russians and the Chinese.

“Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia,” Trump’s son, Donald Jr., said at a real estate conference in 2008, according to a trade publication, eTurboNews.

Unless you are calling Trump's son a liar, we know Trump gets a lot of Russian Money.

I hope this is passed at least at the state level.

It must be the state of confusion. The fool cannot enforce a non-existent law and will be hard-pressed to make a new law retroactive.

A) It's not even news, you can't pass a law after someone has already been elected. Folks tried to do this to force Obama to try to show his birth certificate. You can't pass a law making something against the law after someone has done something, it's unconstitutional.

and

B) "New York Democrat Brad Hoylman has reportedly tabled a bill that, if passed, would require presidential candidates to disclose five years of tax returns before their name could appear on a New York state ballot."

The bill has been tabled, do you know even know what that means? They gave up. Why the press is even covering a non-story, it's completely beyond me. If folks were educated in Roberts Rules of Order, they would know what this means, it means the bill is dead.

Ummm, 2020. If the law is passed at the state level and Trump runs again, he would have to release his returns to appear on the ballot.

Why are Republicans so afraid, terrified actually, of Trump's tax returns being released?

Actually, most of us to care less whether he makes his tax returns public or not. It appears to simply be another little irritation for you since you're still but hurt over Hillary's losing the election.

From The New York Times 12 December 2016:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
President-elect Donald Trump refused to release his tax returns during the campaign and there is no sign that he will, ever. He broke longstanding tradition and set a terrible precedent for future presidential candidates.

Good government groups have been wringing their hands about what to do. Now comes an excellent idea from a New York State senator, Brad Hoylman, a Democrat from Manhattan, that would could force candidates to disclose their tax returns by making it a requirement for getting on the ballot.

That's outrageous!

Most State Constitutions: "The person, houses, papers and possessions of every person shall be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures."

Nobody has any obligation whatsoever to produce their books and papers for examination, especially to GOVERNMENT ON THE TAKE.

Federal requirement for being eligible to run for president trump state requirements. There is no requirement that any presidential candidate release tax or medical info

If some butthurt state legislature passes this ridiculous law it will be struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court

What does it mean when a person in a position of great responsibility says one thing and does another?

hmmmmmmm...And he beat both of them...What I've seen so far is Trump, day after day, spitting in the face of liberal orthodoxy and always coming out on top...no wonder so many on the left are so hell bent on insisting he do things their way, it is the surest way for them to get him out of the white house.

I am sorry to have to make this announcement to everyone on USMB.

It is a sad day, and even a sadder thing I must tell you all today............

rdeans butthurt just went stage 4.

Pray for his swift recovery
