What an absolute sleeze. The new Governor General actually denies her support of the the FLQ in the early 70's, as does her film maker husband, who incidentally did a peice on the them years ago. Anyway, this is so typical of those idiots.

Quebec singer-songwriter Raymond Lévesque's decision to turn down a $15,000 Governor General's Award for performing arts has made him $33,000 richer.

On Friday, Lévesque received a cheque for $33,000 from a group of prominent separatists who organized a fundraising drive in the wake of his decision.

Raymond Lévesque, shown in September, was happy with $33,000 from Bloc Québécois.

The money was raised by Bloc Québécois MP Caroline St-Hilaire and the Societé St-Jean-Baptiste de Montreal, which promotes Quebec culture and sovereignty.

St-Hilaire launched an effort to match the $15,000 that comes with winning a Governor General's Award for performing arts after Lévesque, 77, announced he would not accept the award.

Levesque said he could not reconcile his separatist beliefs with the federalist nature of the award.

In accepting the substitute cheque, Lévesque couldn't resist taking a few additional jabs at the new Governor General.

"Kneel down before the Governor General? Never," he told a crowd that included former premier Jacques Parizeau and Parti Québécois leadership candidate Pauline Marois.

Levesque criticized Michaëlle Jean, saying the new Governor General changes political allegiances when it suits her career. The Governor General's awards are to be given out this weekend.
