Taguba Denies Telegraph 'Rape Photos' Story, White House Urges Coverage

White House reporters received an unusual email on Saturday, with a subject line stating, "Important Please Read: From White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs."

In the email body, Gibbs wrote:

A number of you have asked about or reported on a recent article in the Telegraph that inaccurately described photos which are the subject of an ongoing lawsuit. Both the Department of Defense and the White House have said the article was wrong, and now the individual who was purported to be the source of the article has said it's inaccurate. Given that this false report has been repeated around the world, and given the impact these negative reports have on our troops, I felt it was important for you to see this correction.

Gibbs included the full text of a story by Salon.com's Mark Benjamin, which features retired Army Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba denying reports that he has seen the photos of prisoner abuse that the Obama administration is trying to keep secret.

The White House put both feet firmly in this pile of shit. They have nobody to blame but themselves

The blame lies with Cheney and Bush. The photos should be released, asap, then we can decide if they represent criminal acts or not. President Obama wishes to protect our soldiers, but the failure to show what actually happened protects either the miscreants that did the torture, or, if the torture did not actually happen, then those that lied about that.

Release all of the photos. Let the chips fall where they may.

Are you just Mentally deficient? ALL the photos involve LEGAL cases AGAINST troops and others. ALL of them were EVIDENCE used to prosecute people for breaking the law.

Now you DUMB ASS, explain how Bush or Cheney are responsible for THAT.

Of course, if the photos show actual torture, then we have a legal problem with those that ordered the torture.

YOU ARE Mentally Deficient. EVERYONE of the photos are from CRIMINAL cases and were used AGAINST the people that committed the CRIMES. This has been reported MORE than once. And it has been repeated on this board more then once.

Dumb as a FUCKING ROCK indeed.

Rocks has an agenda, and no facts will get in the way of his arguement. I see it with his politics, and I see it with his global warming politics. He will use fraudulent data to support whatever cause he is promoting. He will never acknowledge the truth, when it's presented to him.

If the troops have been prosecuted, what is the story? What is the purpose of releasing the photos to the public anyway?

The pictures wouldn't just stay in the US. They would be downloaded all over the world. Our troops would be in harms way even more than what they are now. The US has dealt with the problem, and moving forward.
Old Rocks wants to use it as a tool to get to Bush, and Cheney...I guess because he just can't get over that administration, and the republicans. He probably feels it would empower the democrats even more than they are now.

Abu Gharib cost the lives of many of our troops. And well before the photos were released here. You think the Iraqis did not know what was going on? And the photos in question are not those involving things like Abu Gharib, but the torture ordered by Cheney and Bush.

Writes Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff of the State Department under Colin Powell: "[A]s the [Bush] administration authorized harsh interrogation in April and May of 2002—well before the Justice Department had rendered any legal opinion—its principal priority for intelligence was not aimed at pre-empting another terrorist attack on the U.S. but discovering a smoking gun linking Iraq and al-Qa'ida." If Wilkerson's accusations are true, did the Bush administration coerce information out of terror suspects they knew to be false? Were Bush administration officials using evidence obtained from torture to support conclusions they had already made?

While I don't condone the actions of those guards at Abu Graib that mistreated prisoners, let's be straight here. The actions at Abu Graib were not as responsible for the deaths of our military personel as were the New York Times and the other liberal media that chose to portray barking dogs and a woman laughing at a man's jewels as the worst kind of atrocities. I guess they didn't quite notice that at the time we were at WAR. Maybe they were just too damn distracted thinking of panties on the head to realize that their harping would cause Nick Berg's head to be cut off. The media was so anxious to cause George Bush harm that they purposely endangered our troops. I find that unforgivable.
