History’s most successful society is most likely that of Rome. Spanning from almost 800 years before birth of Christ to almost 500 years after. Then by E/W Rome into 15th century.

They had it all. Kingdom, republic, empire. Most of anything we have as as foundation as of system of ruling, democracy and justice is a direct inheritance. USA still have a senate, for instance. “E Pluribus Unum” is Latin. And Rome did everything you can possibly imagine.

What neither “side” (anywhere) seems to understand is that everything has already been tried. Nothing prevails. Nothing except adapting.

We (humans) create societies. And whether they under some circumstances might be called left/right/red/blue/eagle/hare or what ever - not one too stern roadmap will work in the long run.

The discussion of good/evil is really pointless. Socialism can be great, met by capitalism through grinding. And the opposite.

There are very few (none) ideologies that stands the test of men.

USA has been around for a fraction of the time we have documented history. Nothing that’s happening now is new or special.

Point of thread: perhaps we should try to stop with labelling whole fractions with one name? You CAN cherry pick. You can wish for a wall AND social security. You can argue for free abortion AND wish for less immigration.

I can wish for State Corps of Engineers to complement the federal Corps.

In each case, the people of their own time never gave much thought to what people of a future time would think or believe. We live in the present and plan for a very short term future; usually, not one that goes much beyond the third generation from our own timeline. In fact, most people realize that they will have been forgotten by the fourth generation after their own.

So, we fight to keep the system we have and the system we believe is the right one and let the future care for itself.

I agree - we don’t ever look forward. Never had. But we also don’t really “have” a system. Reading this forum only is enough to understand that liberal/conservative view points have been shifted on issues in a very short time.

Well, that just amounts to everyone's intellectual dishonesty. This forum is in no way indicative of the rest of the country as a whole.
