Should the military get involved to stop the thugs, rioters, and looters in Ferguson?

Those thugs just don't know when to stop. They're looting and destroying buildings, and rioting and destroying the city, they're burning the city. And killing Police, it's been going on since August. Isn't it time the military gets involved to help the Police stop them. Of course, Obama won't do it.

No, just the National Guard, if it comes down to it. Don't see a civil war coming any time soon, so no need for tanks on the streets and the like.

Civilian crime is a law enforcement issue for the cops to deal with. While I do not support direct military intervention in civilian law enforcement, I would support implementing martial law for a time and impose mass punishment. Examples might be that for every building burned, power is cut to the whole town for an hour every day for the next week; for every public servant (of any kind) assaulted, the internet is throttled back 1MG/sec, with a total internet blockade a possibility; a riot results in a total water shut-off for a month and you get rationed bottled water at a distribution center.

If mass punishment can't be implemented on Ferguson alone, then broaden the mass punishment zone to the entire county.

Mass punishment requires martial law because it would punish people who did nothing wrong. Mass punishment works because people who are being punished for the behaviors of others start policing those other people themselves. Mass punishment works because the punished innocents rat out the perpetrators. Mass punishment works because the perpetrators become less likely to offend so the fall out doesn't come back on their loved ones. Mass punishment works because it removes the advantage of anonymity; that an arsonist can't be identified because he covered his face, doesn't matter, because everyone will be punished for the arson.
