Why the IS rebels’ relatives have remembered about human rights institutions

November 10, 2017 will go down in history as a day of liberation of Syria from the IS organization.

Successful operations of the Government Forces and their allies allowed to gain control over all major population centers. Though one should not forget about the air support that has been provided by Russian pilots to Syrian militants.

As the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense put it, at the moment Russian and Syrian bomb squads are demining the ruins that jihadis left behind in Abu-Kamal, Mayadin and Deir ez Zor.

It is known that on 3 November fighters in Deir ez Zor that the Syrians used to name The Pearl of the Desert were mopped up. Suheil’s Tigers took part in the military operation having killed hundreds of terrorists.

Just some rebels managed to escape to the island of Hawijah Kate on the Euphrates. According to the preliminary data, there may be around 100 people in the suburbs of the city. In addition to terrorists their relatives have taken refuge on the island. Despite they are directly involved in criminal activities the yesterday's accomplices of terrorism have unexpectedly recalled the existence of international human rights organizations. They say that the Government troops and their allies are using heavy equipment and civilians are being killed together with militants.

The word "civilians" sounds innocent and even touching, western media and human rights activists often overuse it. Probably, militants' relatives hope that emotional phrases will allow them to avoid punishment.

However, in order we are not suspected of cynicism we will put the dots on the i. It is unlikely that anyone is going to purposefully kill the so-called peaceful women or children. Even if they are militants’ family.

According to Syrian militants, the Government Forces are ready to set up a humanitarian corridor from the island of Kate. The other question is whether the civilian population is ready to use the opportunity and to leave the combat zone.

It also cannot be ruled out that the families of the IS terrorists are working us for sympathy being pressured by their husbands and fathers, Allah’s who several days ago were ready to die for the lofty ideals of the Caliphate. But now they have surrendered and fled from the battlefield. If this is so, these warriors are now sheltering themselves behind their children, mothers and wives.

And, finally, before the war burst out the population of Deir ez Zor had equaled to 200 000 people. But the hostilities made thousands of civilians leave the city, and the population shrank to tens of thousands. The only exception are those who failed to break through the three-year blockade of the fighters. But no one bombed them. On the contrary, the Russian and Syrian troops provided them with humanitarian support dropping food and drinking water.

We are not sure that the United Nations is aware of this.
