A republican takes the lead for Henry Waxman's seat.

Republican Elan Carr Leads Wendy Greuel, Ted Lieu in Race for Henry Waxman's 33rd District Seat - The Hollywood Reporter

California's 33rd Congressional district has long been considered one of the Democrats' most valuable stretches of real estate, but in Tuesday's open primary Republican Elan Carr was the top vote-getter among a field of 18 candidates vying for a chance to advance to the general election.

It's not surprising. After weeks of televised spots among democrats and mailers by democrats, the republican came out as the only one with a grasp of the real issues. As in REAL issues.

The democrats all promised a woman's right to choose, progressive education, solving climate change and gun control.

The primary was crowded by six different left leaning candidates and only 3 right leaning candidates. The Democrats split the vote 19%, 17%, 13%, 12%, 2%, and 1%. The GOP only split the vote 21%, 7%, and 2%. In CA the GOP and Dems primary together. Even though the GOP got first in the primary the race still heavily favors the Democrat.

California has a peculiar election. The top two candidates face off in the general election. We are used to seeing two democrats. It's one of the reasons I seldom vote. It is a shock to Californians to see a republican even on the ballot in the general election.

There is a race in CA-31 that's more competitive then CA-33.

Also in CA-25 there's two GOP candidate that will go to the general election

Point of order! Point of order! The esteemed Representative Waxman is more accurately described as Pig Nose Henry.

He's the only human being whose head one can look directly inside of via his unusually large and funny-angled nostrils. And anyone who's ever looked can confirm his head is empty.
