Heather Penney, then an Air Force Lt, was willing to die to save others lives on 9/11. She and her superior officer, both pilots of F-16s, took off with no ammo or weapons on their airplanes. Their goal was to stop the airplane that ended up crashing in PA, crashed by the passenger heros.

This is her story.

The mission was to crash into an American passenger plane if it was headed in the wrong direction? Who says? Pretty slim evidence to hang a career on. Lucky for the Major she was too late and the heroic passengers took the decision away from her.

Her and her superior officer did not locate the airplane and learned it crashed when they got back to base and landed. She says she was fortunate not to locate the plane that crashed. She credits the passengers you bring up as heros.
