Send Out the Pink Slips

He'll lay 1500 - 2000 off on Monday, and he isn't bluffing.

And their positions will be filled the first day they are open for application, by teachers who want to teach, not simply draw a paycheck.

Why do you assume that those that will be laid off are teachers? They are under contract to the end of the year.

Wanna bet those laid off will be from the "classified" ranks?

If they aren't teaching in their classrooms, I would consider that a contractual breach on their part.

I'm not supporting teachers being at the protests, I'm simply stating reality. Teachers are under contract, layoffs will most likely occur in those positions that are not under contract: Teacher Aids, Secretarial, Custodial, Maintenance, etc...

Not to be rude, but what you consider it has no bearing.

The reality is that it would cost the state more money between now and the end of the fiscal year to try to terminate them for attending the protest because each would be a separate action, each requiring it's own investigation, each challenged under the contracts rules resulting in legal expenditures for each case by the school system, in each individual case it would have to be proven that a person was at the protest and not home sick. I reality you and I and everyone else knows what was going on, but that's group dynamics, proving it in the case of each and every teacher that was out that day is a different matter.

So..if they don't come back the governor will fire the aids and janitors?

Lol...I don't think so.

I have you seen the list of 1500-2000 (or is it 5500) people that he will have to let go?

I haven't.

Teachers are under contract, that is a fact. Unless the contract is terminated for one of the reasons specified in the contract, then the employer is still obligated to pay the value of the contract. I'll be willing to bet that if 1500 pink slips are issued come Monday the vast majority are going to be for non-exempt, non-contract workers such as Teacher Aids, Custodial, Clerical, DMV Clerks, Prison Guards, State DOE personnel, Child services, Health services, State Park employees, etc...

It will be likely the majority of workers cut will be blue collar.

MADISON -- Gov. Scott Walker said late Monday that unless 14 Senate Democrats return to the state Capitol to act on his budget bill by this weekend, approximately 1,500 state and government employees face layoffs soon and as many as 12,000 could ultimately get pink slips.

"It is of the greatest important that we pass this budget repair bill. It sets the table to make sure we can balance the $3.6 billion deficit going into the next biennium," Walker told a news conference in Madison.

He also said failure to act quickly on the budget bill would eventually lead to the state being unable to make Medicaid reimbursements.

Taking note of the mass protests outside the Capitol for the past week, Walker said:

"They have every right to be heard, but I want to make clear, especially to those union leaders who are coming in from outside of the state of Wisconsin, that when given the choice to stand with them or to stand with the millions of the hard-working taxpayers all across Wisconsin, many of whom are paying much [more] for health care and retirement benefits than the modest amount we’re asking for in this proposal I’m going to stand with the hard-working taxpayers of Wisconsin.”

Walker called statements by unions that they are now willing to make concessions on pensions and health care insurance "an interesting development" in light of their position that such changes were unacceptable 10 days ago.

"Their logic changes day by day," he said, adding...

Sounds like a guy who's feeling the heat and is getting desperate.

Sounds like a guy who doesn't want his state to go bankrupt at the behest of socialist and criminal teachers.

Stuff like this just needs to be highlighted.

Scott Walker you are a brave and courageous man! I :salute: you!

Some things just need to be highlighted, bolded, and enlarged.

Being told I HATE by a bunch of raving rabid Lefties crack me up.

We are calling for the poor wayward teachers who SHUT DOWN THEIR DAMN SCHOOLS leaving their students and Parents in a bind, to BE FIRED.

too damn bad you want to call hate we call it, justice. We pay their salaries. we can call for anything we want.

I bet most of the teachers who get fired won't care that much.

Hell, they'll probably live better off by being unemployed and drawing welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, free healthcare than by living off what they pay teachers. OH WAIT.......no, Wisconsin teachers are compensated an avg package of $89,500 a year with summers off. Yeah, they better get back to work!!!

I bet they'll crawl back to work on Monday, because ultimately, they're cowardly, greedy, dishonorable chicken shits. They only believe in sacrifice when someone else does it.

Which puts them in the same boat as terrorists.
 Babble thinks teachers = terrorists.

What an awesome platform for Republicans to run on.

Let's see:

Rioting Capital in attempts to intimidate lawmakers into doing what they want.

Sounds like terrorism to me. Though not to the degree we usually associate with terrorists.
