Senate Defies Veto Threat

So exactly how does that make it ok to tell the world that she works for the CIA. Please explain that.

How does it make it not OK? Government employees are not shielded from having their places of employment known. The only reason that it became an issue to discuss her employment was because she recommended her blowhard, has been husband for a CIA assignment (nepotism, anyone?). He then proceeded to misrepresent that he was given the assignment by Cheney. While setting the record straight, it came out that it was Plame who recommended Wilson, not Cheney.

IOW: Big Fucking Deal

Tax Havens: Under Cheney's tenure, the number of Halliburton subsidiaries in offshore tax havens increased from 9 to 44. Meanwhile, Halliburton went from paying $302 million in company taxes in 1998 to getting an $85 million tax refund in 1999.

Halliburton is hardly alone in this. Double taxation of foreign earned profits has driven most multi-nationals to keep their foreign operations separate.

Just out of curiosity, do you purposely pay more in taxes than what you are legally obligated?

Thats all you have to say?
All those posts and thats it?
Is that how you lose by simply moving on and dismissing the discussion?

Dick Cheney has taught you well.

How can a recommendation = nepotism? If she had given him the job... that'd be one thing. She, as you clearly wrote above, recommended him. Why was he sent? Because he was the right diplomat for the job.

But, Karl Rove and Dick Cheney hate nothing more than being outted for lying to us and having the President lie to us in the SOTU speech.

The President himself said he'd remove whoever had leaked her identity. Why hasn't he done so? How many other CIA operatives would you like to put at risk? How much of our national security are you willing to risk so that the Administration can lie to us?

So the pure fact that Halliburton goes from paying taxes, to getting a tax return, is fair?

youre of the opinion that because corporations get taxed they should be allowed to hold their monies in off shore tax havens? granting them immunity in paying anything?

How is the war suppose to get paid for? by the poor people?

Cause corporations like Halliburton (Thanks to Cheney) are obviously not paying what they should.

blah blah blah

Again - if you have legal tax deductions, do you not take them so that you can pay more taxes than you owe?

You are sorely ignorant regarding multi-national businesses and taxation. If a company has operations in France, employing French employees, selling to French customers, and paying French taxes, why should they pay duplicate taxes in the U.S.?

You are also sorely ignorant if you think Cheney or Bush wrote the U.S. tax code.

Define Fair.

You don't understand how tax havens work.

The poor people don't pay much in Federal Income taxes. The bottom 50% of all tax payers pay only 3.3% of total Federal Income taxes collected. So, The Rich are already paying for the war.

Define "paying what they should". Oh, nevermind. It's pretty clear that you want them to pay whatever profit they earn to the government.

Ummm, im not the best when it comes to arguing taxes, but wouldnt that be because the poor people makes less? I mean if what we consider poor people are people making under 25K year wouldnt that be why they pay only 3.3% of Fed Income tax? Only a certain % gets taken out so the Rich are obviously going to pay more because they make more.

So the poor people get hit just as hard because 100 dollars to a poor person is a fortune.

Then you should be in favor of cutting tax rates for everyone. Lower tax rates result in The Rich paying a higher proportion of all income taxes.

and if Dubya wasn't flushing a trillion dollars down the shitter in Iraq, we wouldn't need to collect as much and maybe COULD lower tax rates for some folks.....

Big "if"

Not when the loopholes exist for the wealthiest and the corporations.

It's been proven over and over again that this relationship is accurate. Lower taxes lead to economic growth, rising incomes, and higher tax receipts from wealthier taxpayers.

prove it.

JFK

Ronald Reagan

George W Bush

All three cut taxes and the result was huge ecomic growth

Under Pres Peanut Carter the top tax rate was 70%. Part of the Peanut legacy is the economy was so bad, the misery index was created
