Republicans for the most part are desperately trying to keep the government running and the Democrats for the most part are desperately trying to shut it down. That's the situation today.

Last night the Senate temporarily extended funding the government so that they would have the time to clear procedural hurtles that were thrown up by angry Democrats that felt blindsided by a provision that rolled back Dodd-Frank that were about to kick in next year. Even Harry Reid urged passage of the bill, but it appears that the fringes in both parties are angry because they felt their side compromised too much. Republicans are complaining, but they're not trying to shut down the government like angry self-serving Democrats are. Democrats see an opportunity to create another crisis and many like former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Elizabeth Warren don't want to waste this opportunity to lie and prognosticate purely to appeal to their base.

I expect the Democrats to claim down the road that the do-nothing GOP is at fault here ... not themselves. This is the side-effect of a political party that has control of the media and feels they can literally get away with murder.

Spending Bill Likely to Pass Senate May Take a Few Days

Maybe they think a Dem shutdown will pay off with Senate and House seats, like the so called Republican shutdown did for Republicans.

If only the federal government were shut down, nearly in its entirety. Then many Americans would realize it does more harm than good and they do not need it.

Even with a shut down, the monster is still operating at 80-85%.

LOL!!! If the government shuts down, does anyone really think the Dems will be blamed? That's a Rep thing and everyone knows it. The Reps will have to do everything they can to make sure it doesn't happen or they can kiss 2016 good bye right now..

A shutdown is paid vacation for most Federal workers.

Forest Service people I know loved it.

Hell, hunting on Forest Service land was not even curtailed.

Like they had to kiss 2014 goodbye, when just 10 months after the last "shutdown", they took control of the Senate, and increased lead in the House?

Think about it.

He can't, he's already drank the kool aid.

The Dems will be blamed if it shuts down this time as surely as the Pubs were last time.

To suggest anything else makes Reason stare.

I didn't get paid during the last shutdown. They gave us the option to file for unemployment or just wait it out. By the time we get done filing our paperwork for unemployment the shutdown had ended and the time we were off work was not reimbursed. Select individuals they considered to be essential were told to work without pay and they had to file for pay after the afterward.

That is what it was like at my level. I'm sure Congress got paid.

I have, but apparently you haven't. 2016 isn't 2014, just as 2012 wasn't 2010. You're forgetting your history.
