I don't know why they just can't imprison him for a time and then let him go. It makes a very bad impression of Saudi Arabia to most of the rest of the world giving such a severe punishment for so-called "apostasy." Isn't it bad enough that they show the world that they behead women for adultry?

Raif Badawi, the Saudi Arabian blogger whose punishment of 1000 lashes prompted international condemnation, may now face the death penalty.
Mr Badawi's wife, Ensaf Haidar, told The Independent in a series of messages that judges in Saudi Arabia's criminal court want him to undergo a retrial for apostasy. A guilty verdict would mean death.

Raif Badawi, the Saudi Arabian blogger whose punishment of 1000 lashes prompted international condemnation, may now face the death penalty.
