The Reservation was Americas first attempt at socialism of a people. it failed.

I was a military brat. I grew up on Air Force bases in family military housing. This was another attempt by America at socialism. It succeded.

Do you have a suggestion as to why the American Indian life expectency is shorter than any other race in America?

Looks like the DOD schools you attended failed though.

Actually the DOD schools were quite superior to civilian schools. I was age twelve when I first attended civilian schools and that was the first time I heard the N-word, wop, ****, etc.. from peers.
I'm no big fan of socialism, but it IS ironic that military life and military family life is quite socialistic in nature, even tho' it rankles many to admit it.

My point is that not all attempts at socialism fail. If you want to cherry pick, yeah, the Rez system is a glaring example of failure.
Now, to answer your specific question...........BOOZE.............and booze related illnesses and events, like suicide, which is symptomatic of tearing people away from their land and imposing Anglo cultural standards on them which still in reality most Indians want little part of. It is not unusual for Indian men to have cirrohsis of the liver in their late 30's.
Have you ever been on a Rez? I have. An ex co-worker and friend of mine, a woman, used to be chief of the Paiutes in Las Vegas. American Indians have to negotiate two worlds; life on the Rez and the outside Anglo world. Many of the full bloods actually have a good amount of money, as the gov't stipends are very generous as they are considered national treasures, but choose to live modestly, and to some Anglo eyes, they judge them as all living in poverty.
My friend had one husband who slept in a wood shed, on the floor, behind her house, even though she had a well appointed home with all the comforts.
Diabetes is also rampant among American Indians.
