Oh, I think there's some truth to that. The Russians want to sow chaos and disruption, first and foremost, as opposed to getting a specific candidate elected. They've supported extremist groups on both the left and the right in elections in many countries. But the most chaotic and disruptive candidate in the US election was Donald Trump. Had the election been, say Jeb Bush v Bernie Sanders, the Russians probably would have supported Sanders.
