First off, I don't think negroes need more media attention. They are only 17% of the American population, they have had legal equality for over 50 years now, and there's even a negro in the White House. Granted, I know it all boils down to revenue, and this race stuff sells in today's society faster than crack sells in downtown Baltimore. But fuck it; this Roots rehash is preempting my fucking antique shows on the History Channel tonight. Fuck yo dream.

Also, I have heard that the colored people are going to be a lot more militant than in the original flick. That is not too cool. The slaves were very simple and crude. They were not activists.

My favorite scene from the original Roots was when Kunte Kente refused to take his given name, opting to keep his African name instead. This verbal sparring goes on as the overseer whips the slave with a bull whip. That was my favorite scene. Will the new flick preserve this scene?

One final thought. Roots is great in that it hits on a key point of the practice of human slavery. The Master MUST be the good guy. Him and his bitches need to be kind to the human chattel (feed them, give one a glass of water, take time with them, etc...). You have got to have an overseer to discipline the slaves. This way if the colored people ever revolt they won't have such a fucking hard-on to kill the Master. They will go for the overseer first. Therefore, he will have to be really well paid and taken care of.

Perhaps you need to watch more porn. Grown up stuff is wasted on you.

Missed the first one.

Will do my best to miss the new one

Hard yo watch...to think american citizens mistreated people like this.... A terribly nasty vermin people slave owners were. They were too lazy to do the work themselves and I do not consider them real Americans.

They weren't lazy you see. They thought of the slaves as chattel. Something to be owned like their cattle and their horses. There goes the heart and soul of it I have 20 cows. I have 8 horses. I have 40 slaves in different standing.

You cannot judge them now by today's standards. That would be full folly.

Progressives like yourself are always bringing up perversion, you need to get out of your moms basement more often.

Not only do I judge them as nasty tyrranical lazy pukes....I call them worse than that. Calling yourself a christian an beating human beings don't mesh. They were not god fearing folk that is for sure.

My question is, "What is the need for a new "Roots?" I thought the original was well done and told the story accurately. Is there some political advantage in refilming it?

Don't forget how mean and vicious and genocidal our ancestors were to the Indians Native Americans.
Watch the PBS Ric Burns series, "The Way West." Americans were really lousy (Are they much better today?).

A Black friend once said to me that she didn't think much of African rulers who sold their subjects and prisoners into slavery. I replied to her, "There's one thing we can agree on; neither of us would have liked our ancestors much." She said that's so.

I am amused at childish Americans who feel superior to the Black slaves. Most of their own ancestors in Europe were serfs, and treated about as badly as Black slaves -- and if they came over in the 19th century most were treated none too well here.

The federal government is to blame now and then...

I over heard a conversation between a white woman and her black friend. The white woman asked her friend if she was going to watch the remake of Roots. The black woman said, "no, because its going to make me hate white people :mad-61:"

This is the reason this remake is being released now!

Stirring up hatred and resentment towards whites fits the political agenda of the enemies of America during this pivotal and dangerous period of our nation's history.

That white women was no friend, she is a race instigator, as if all black people watch slave films, how insulting of the white guilt liberal, or else why not ask the black friend if she was going to watch any popular tv show the white friend would recommend? The white friend was baiting for a reaction from the black friend, this is called liberal undercover bigotry. The lily white liberal pretend they like black people as friends so they won't feel guilty about asking insulting questions about blacks.

Keep your friends close and keep the blacks even closer. White liberal people using ghetto slang around black friends to make them feel comfortable, this is insulting bigotry at it's finest. Liberals are the most racist assholes to get away with it.

HUH. That is like a Canadian asking an American if they are going to watch something on the Revolutionary war. It's part of their history. Why not ask that?
Your thinking that there was some ulterior motive says more about you than the participant in the discussion.

To think this is going to stir up hate is over the top. Slavery was real. A teal dark time in this so called great nation.

Slavery was real. And the original movie Roots did an outstanding movie to chronicle the events. So, why rewrite and reproduce it? That is like remaking Gone with the Wind. It was done well the first time. No remake is necessary.
