Ronald Reagan, 1988: 'Move Quickly' To 'Make Sure There's A Full Nine-Member Supreme Court'

Ronny has spoken. Mitchy McTurtle, Do the right thing!!!

This claim is demonstrably false, as illustrated by a cursory glance at Senate history and by some of the past statements and even votes of some of the very same senators.

Things got so bad that Ted Cruz, who in the wake of Justice Antonin Scalia’s death was one of the first to call on the GOP to block consideration of any nominee from President Obama, falsely claimed in a presidential debate that Justice Anthony Kennedy was confirmed by the Senate in 1987, when in fact he was confirmed in 1988, the final year of Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

How about Lincoln? You still okay with him, or is he out too?

After Bork, after your despicable treatment of Clarence Thomas and the Schumer Rule, all we can say is payback is a Barack.

Elections have consequences, you lost the Senate because people don't want Obama to do any more damage to the country.

President Trump will fill that vacancy

Did he say that before the Bork, Ginsberg, or Kennedys nomination?

Fairly sure it was after the democrat leaders said not to pass his choices.

"Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell was a moderate, and even before his expected retirement on June 27, 1987, Senate Democrats had asked liberal leaders to form "a solid phalanx" to oppose whomever President Ronald Reagan nominated to replace him"

Remember, elections have consequences, you lost the Senate so either send a Scalia clone or suck on it

As President of the Trump Corp. he will never have that power.

It is all on perspective. Obama, Biden, Kerry, Pelosi, Boxer, Clinton etc were against such a pick when it was a Republican President making the pick. But now they are for it because a Democratic President is making the pick. Funny how that works.

I fully support the senate blocking Obama, since his previous 2 picks have been nothing but disasters. 2 of the worst to sit on the bench.

Stop with the lame excuses and order your Senators to do their job.

His THREE nominations were in made in 1987, the last, Kennedy, confirmed in February 1988, after being nominated in November 1987.

If you're going to whine about history, at least know it.

Last I looked, it's not 1988, and the Democrats have lost all vestiges of American thought. The Democrats are owed nothing beyond the constitutional mandate, which contains absolutely no requirement for the Senate to grant advice and consent to a president in opposition.

The Court will survive a temporary vacancy just fine.

He was confirmed in 1988 - ELECTION YEAR -- that is history.

The GOP is lying and their base is too dumb to use the internet and get the facts.

Keep spinning Hazel.

He was nominated in November 1987.

Which was NOT an election year.
