Man in clown mask 'stabs teen in Sweden'
Fri, 14 Oct 2016 - A teenager is recovering after he was stabbed by a clown in southern Sweden, amid a wave of "creepy clown" sightings in Europe and the US.
A man in a clown mask has stabbed a teenager in western Sweden, police have said. The youth was left with minor injuries following the attack, which happened when he went outside for a cigarette in Varberg, south of Gothenburg. It came the day after two people in clown costumes reportedly threatened to kill a woman in central Sweden. The reports are the latest in a wave of "creepy clown" sightings in Europe and the US. The craze involves adults in frightening outfits scaring passers-by.

Police are still searching for the Varberg clown, but are not yet willing to definitely link it to the craze, which began in the US over the summer. The teenager suffered minor injuries to his shoulder. "We do not know what prompted this. It was not a robbery, and I do not know if they had fought before," spokesman Ulla Brehm told Gotesburgposten (in Swedish). "It's hard to say if this is something that has to do with the trend that has come from the US, but there was a clown mask on the site."

However, Swedish Interior Minister Anders Ygeman has called for calm as more and more sightings of scary clowns are made across Sweden. "We don't want to see a situation where a person gets into real trouble because someone, perhaps half joking, puts on a clown mask," Mr Ygeman told the TT news agency.

Sunday 30th October, 2016. - Halloween, the most creepy day of the year is already giving people nightmares, even before it has actually arrived.

The incidents were not only reported in United States but in several European countries as well. While it caught the governments’ eyes, the German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière has announced a “zero tolerance” policy against creepy clowns. In Europe and the United States people found these clowns scary as they thirsted for blood and aimed at alarming people. Believing that Halloween could be a platform for things to get much worse - clown costumes have even been banned in some parts of the world.

At the same time, the string of incidents have led professional clowns to claim that these creepy clowns who kept popping up in different countries weren’t the ‘real’ clowns. Maizière said, “This has nothing to do with harmless Halloween activities, anymore.” Adding that police officials would be on high alert over the coming days, in particular. According to an analysis, there have been at least 30 attacks, robberies or assaults by perpetrators in clown costumes over the past weeks in Germany. Similar cases and incidents were registered in other parts of Europe, including in the United Kingdom. Some bars in the U.K. have even announced that they would not allow any customers wearing clown costumes on Halloween as a precautionary measure. The people playing pranks and committing crimes while dressed as clowns are forcing a change in the industry.” “You have some of that every year. This year seems to be worse than ever. Those scaring people are not clowns. They are people in clown masks,” Sheets added.
