Pro-Israel think tank funds Tommy Robinsonâs legal costs
A notorious hardline, pro-Israel conservative think tank has claimed that it is helping fund the legal expenses of jailed far-right British activist Tommy Robinson.
In a statement published Sunday, the Middle East Forum (MEF) also took credit for funding protests that have taken place in support of Robinson, real name Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon.
Robinson was jailed for 13 months in May, âafter being given 10 months for contempt of court, which he admitted, and a further three months for breaching a previous suspended sentenceâ.
MEF said it is âhelping Robinson in his moment of dangerâ, in âthree main waysâ: using âmonies to fund his legal defenceâ; âbringing foreign pressure on the UK government to ensure Mr. Robinsonâs safety and eventual releaseâ; and âorganising and fundingâ the 9 June rally in London.
UK: Letter warns of mobilization of far right
According to MEF, the organisation is also âsponsoring and organiaing the second âFree Tommy Robinsonâ gathering in London on July 14â.
The statement was signed by MEF Director Gregg Roman, who has previously âworked in Israelâs Defence and Foreign Ministriesâ. MEF President Daniel Pipes, meanwhile, has been described by the Southern Poverty Law Centre as an âanti-Muslim activistâ.
MEF has previously funded far-right Dutch politician Geert Wildersâ legal defence, in 2010 and 2011, âagainst Dutch charges of inciting racial hatredâ.
What a shock said nobody ever. Its easy to manage faux outrage when you have the cash.
You have to look at this in a wider context. How much hate are these people funding elsewhere in the world ?
They personify wickedness.
