Last week the President claimed New Chet's Restaurant in Toledo,Ohio was an indirect beneficiary of the Chrysler Bailout. However Co-Owner Richard Lawrence has announced that New Chet's Restaurant will be going out of business as of Sunday,after a more than 70-Year History. Lawrence added,"The business has fallen victim to the Economy and the Workplace Smoking Ban approved by Ohio Voters in 2006."

This is very sad. New Chet's Restaurant will be missed in Ohio...

there was a good piece in the WaPo about how fast and loose obama played with the auto bailout stats. you'd think one of his crack staffers could have found a restaurant that wasn't about to go tits up.

There is no doubt that Chet's would have survived if Chrysler had not been bailed out. Then all of those laid off workers would have had extra time to spend at Chet's buying food with their unemployment checks.

Then there is the fact that the owner could no longer run the place himself, so he had to pay a manager to do so, which was an extra expense he could not afford. Many small restaurants like this only make it because the owner runs it and works 70 hours per week. If the owners don't work the restaurant themselves, they are not profitable.

But hey, that doesn't sound as good as another stupid talking point.
