The House has passed a FY2012 budget plan that would cut trillions from the federal deficit over the next decade and fundamentally transform the current Medicare system.

The vote in favor of the budget proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., could prove politically perilous for some Republicans, who are likely to be painted by political opponents as insensitive to older voters who favor the current Medicare system.

But ultimately, only four Republicans voted against the measure, which includes a proposal to gradually transition the current Medicare system into a government-funded voucher program for seniors to purchase private health insurance.

All Democrats opposed the Republican budget.

Republicans voting against the Ryan plan were Reps. Ron Paul of Texas, Walter Jones of North Carolina, David McKinley of West Virginia, and Denny Rehberg of Montana.

In a February 2011 NBC/WSJ poll, half of respondents said that replacing Medicare with a voucher system was an “unacceptable” method to address the nation’s deficit, while 44 percent called the idea "acceptable."

Indeed, shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not one mention of the elimination of Medicare. Why am I not surprised that the thread title was a complete fabrication?

To fundamentally transform Medicare IS essentially to eliminate what it is and transform it to what it is not.

a proposal to gradually transition the current Medicare system into a government-funded voucher program for seniors to purchase private health insurance

Didn't medicare come about because seniors simply can't afford insurance? Not sure what their aim is here except to eliminate medicare and let grandma drop dead because she can't afford to go to the doctor.

Any proof for any of that? No, of course not.

I find it hilarious that sticking up for the poor and unfortunate is seen by a lot of Conservatives as fearmongering. Until they cash their check from the Feds.

Something must be done, because Medicare and Medicaid costs are 808 billion dollars.
Ryans plan makes it still viable.
I don't see any plans that the Dems have to keep it going.

How long can any country hope to exist, that is spending more money than it takes in? How well off will grandma be in hyperinflation? You would have her starve to death! She will when her fixed income won't pay her bills. Either make massive cuts in everything or continue down this path to financial ruin. That's the choice.

What's really a shocker is that there's no link to this very credible thread title.
