The Republican party has gone through some presidents and voters leaning to the left of middle in the past several years with the neocons representing themselves as true conservatives. Well, it's about time we true conservatives took back our conservative Republican party. We just need to find the one person who can not only represent the conservative party, but actually win the election for president in 20012. Take a read. Republicans cannot become so conservative that they turn off Independents.

You cannot win without the Independents. Only 20% of the country considers themselves conservative Republicans. You cannot win only with that demographic.

They cannot "stay" what they aren't to begin with.

For the first six years of the last administration, they were like LBJ democratics on crack.

Shrubbie was nowhere near "conservative" (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean anymore).

I would say many of those independents don't what it means to be truly conservative. I mean classic Republican values of individual freedom, natural rights, free markets, and limited government (similar to classical liberals, believe it or not). Lots of attractive ideas on that side that would attract young and old.

Your typical Independent is conservative on economic issues and liberal on social issues, which is really more libertarian and typical of conservative parties in Europe and Canada.
