Republicans may have to rethink Merrick Garland in September

The Republicans could thank their lucky stars to get Garland.

All things considered, he seems like a pretty moderate pick.
.

Garland is the best offer they will get. Hillary may not be so kind if Garland gets withdrawn

Republicans played political gamesmanship and appear to have lost. They will rush to confirm Garland in a lame duck Congress if Hillary wins and the Dems take the Senate

It may be too late
By Hillary's second term, the SCOTUS will be leaning way to the left, 6 to 3 or maybe even 7 to 2. And 3 of those 6 will probably be under 30 years old and make Garland look like a hardcore rightie. ROTFLMAO.

True...Hillary may be patient in knowing she will get to name 3-4 Justices during her tenure. Garland may be acceptable if Hillary knows in the long run she will get a 6-3 or 7-2 court. Rumors are that Clarence Thomas may not relish being on a liberal court and would resign after 25 years on the court.

But Dems may have learned their lesson about a Republican Senate. If a Republican Senate will allow a court seat to go unfilled for a year waiting for a new election, why not two years? or three years

If Hillary gets a Democratic Senate in January, she has a two year window to put in the judges she wants. She has no assurances that Dems will hold the Senate in 2019

Even if there are enough Republican votes to confirm Garland (there are), McConnell will never let Garland come up for a vote. The GOP base would go apeshit in November if the GOP Senate allowed the court to go 5-4 liberal

This thread makes me sick. The one impartial system we are supposed to have, is nothing but activists.
You people are disgusting and hate America.

If Clinton wins the election and the Democrats win the Senate, the day after the election Obama should withdraw Garland's name.

Even from the standpoint that Hillary should confirm the pick and lame duck Senators shouldn't be making the vote after Obama was declared a lame duck with a year left in his term

I doubt if a lame duck Republican Senate could confirm Garland in the six weeks they have after the election and before Christmas and Thanksgiving breaks. Garland hasn't even been interviewed by the Judiciary committee

McConnell is totally screwing the GOP with his "unprecedented" stonewalling of Obama's pick.

The Republican Party has poisoned the African American well of voters for generations, by showing the first Black President so little respect. I don't think any President in the history of this country has had an entire political party obstruct him so totally for eight consecutive years. And then Comrade Trump asks...

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?"
Let's remember that, for a significant portion of his own party, McConnell is nothing more than a radical leftist pinko commie Marxist socialist communist transsexual Nazi who wants nothing more than to destroy America and turn it into Venezuela.

So, since he's a professional politician whose top priority is keeping his cushy gubmit job, he's gotta do that stuff.

So it's not his fault.
.

He is probably stocking up on ample supplies of Kentucky Bourbon for the November massacre as I type.

Jimbo...do you think the Ds will rethink Cankles?

Well, they may get bored with a candidate that has an 80%+ chance of winning the White House. When they do, maybe....
What does it say about your party that a lying corrupt criminal for POTUS is wonderful?

Oh well...we must remember your favorite motto: The ends justify the means.

Look, the Dems did not pick the psychotic narcissist that is now your party's Standard Bearer. YOU DID! Now you are stuck with him. ENJOY!
Okay...if the Donald is a psychotic narcissist, what does that make your hero's Cankles and Big Ears?

Madame President

My guess (worth pretty much nothing) is that Hillary wouldn't screw him over by pulling the rug out from under him and withdrawing his nomination.

Plus, in the grand scheme of things, she's relatively moderate herself.
.

Agreed. I think I read that she would stick with him if she is elected. Yes, she is a moderate, as Comrade Trump is more Liberal. BUT DON'T TELL THE RW NUTS THAT ARE SUPPORTING HIM...

I think he's kind of carved his own little political niche.

He's a Trumpist. Who knows.

Nah, the GOP will not rethink Garland.

The GOP is between a rock and a hard place with Garland

Their voters will rebel if they allow the SCOTUS to go 5-4 liberal by confirming Garland
Hillary may decide to take a younger and more liberal alternative if she wins and Dems take the Senate

Lose/Lose for Republicans
Republicans don't care about that.

Their blind, unwarranted hostility toward the president is such that they would never confirm any of his nominees for the Court.

And they hate Hillary twice as much

I have an idea to get Merrick Garland on the Court:

I'd support a swap for either Sotomayor or Kagan, preferably Sotomayor. I'll bet Trump and the Senate would go along with this. Just get Sotomayor to agree. :04:

Donald Who?
As Trump’s numbers tank, it’s no secret that Congressional Republicans are trying to jump ship. While only a few have openly endorsed Hillary Clinton, the mainstream GOP leadership has largely sat out the presidential race, and there have been calls for the Republican party apparatus to shift its resources to saving its majorities in the House and Senate.

With Trump having strongly endorsed the anti-Garland blockade, confirming Garland could be a way for Senate Republicans to distance themselves from him. After all, it would be much easier for vulnerable Republican senators to say “I’m not Trump” if they actually did something that Trump opposes

McConnell will grow another chin over night if President Hillary Clinton nominated Barrack H. Obama to the USSC. Time is running out on the GOP.

Nostradamus here :)

i hope Trump already has his third pick in mind.
