representative in florida resigning; Merged

Ok, so I missed most of this, but here I am to weigh in.

Point #1: This guy was a sicko, and there's no moral equivalence between him and Lewinsky or him and Barney Frank. Those actions were illegal, but they didn't victimize minors. It was all adults. The only equivalence is if Bill Clinton really did rape Juanita Broaderrick, which has never been proven. He should have resigned months ago and been arrested.

Point #2: The Republicans covered it up, but so did the Democrats. With all the spying that has been done on Republicans by the Democrats (remember that girl who had an illegally obtained tape of a phone conversation illegally leaked by someone at the FBI just 6 weeks from the election), it's a sure bet that they also knew about this, but kept it under wraps as an October surprise. Either way, this information should have been turned over to the FBI as evidence, not concealed as partisan political ammunition.

Point #3: If the shoe was on the other foot, what would the Democrats do? Judging from what they did for Bill Clinton, they'd launch an attack campaign to discredit the guys that this sicko e-mailed, just like they did for Monica Lewinsky, Juanita Broaderrick, and Paula Jones. If that didn't work, he'd apologize and the Dems would make excuses to try to minimize his guilt. Rehab rings a bell.

Point #4: This is a scenario where everyone is guilty and nobody wins. This guy is guilty of something both parties can agree is wrong and both parties covered up. Stop trying to throw the issue to sides. It is a disgrace of the ENTIRE national government.

Pretty accurate illustration of the left's double-standard. Was this a Dem Congressman the Dem's would be claiming it never happened or downplaying it as overreaction from the right.

This guy could represent little green men from Mars and my opinion of him and what needs to be done with him would be the same.

FACT: Abusing the power/position of public office attempting to gain sexual favors is abusing the power/position of public office attempting to gain sexual favors.

The only difference here being that one is clearly unlawful conduct besides being morally reprehensible while the other is just morally reprehensible.

Forget the comparison's to Clinton, unless you're vying for the title of "most perverted American political party".

This situation's more comparable to Gerry Studds, back in '83.

Supposedly, there were emails, which were mild, only vaguely disturbing, and there were IM's that Foley thought no one could access. The latter's were the actual cyber-pedo porn, and just came to light (as in the GOP's leadership) late last week.

These rumors - both about Foley's homosexuality AND his penchant for teen-age boys - was rumored for years, but Foley benefitted from being a "gay" conservative Republican, nobody wanted to challenge him on this, it was anti-PC.

And there, my fellow board members, is the "bottom line" to the whole mess.

It was anti-PC, and in this case anti-gay.

Let the twisting, and spinning begin.:boohoo:

Bottom line, he wrote but didn't touch.

How do you know he didn't touch?

Then we have Clinton, who touched, cigared, lied, and now chastises. :dunno:

Gee, Clinton touched a consenting adult? Wow, what horrors.

Clinton's error was a false statement about a personal relationship, and nothing more.

From what I have read, Foley is a pedophile.

That would be pedophile. No matter, that you didn't have correct spelling, you have the right of might on your side.

As for Clinton, you really should quit while you were ahead.

Yet another republican is outed for liking sex with young boys. Jeez - you guys are almost as bad as Catholic priests!

AB

Last I checked, Dems are up on Republicans when it comes to being sexual perverts.

But DO tell, what other Republicans have been "outted" (a STUPID word if ever there was one) for liking sex with young boys?

Alas, no spell check in Firefox - so missed it.

Funny how you come to rely on technology for things like catching insignificant errors. the "i" and the "o" are next to each other on the keyboard - been having issues typing since I got my new bifocals. This aging thing sucks.

You'll get used to them, CL. Did you get the lineless?

You'll get used to that, too! :D

Perhaps "was". And while still on the books, the SCOTUS in "Lawrence v. Texas" invalidates laws regarding private relationships.

CL
Perhaps the worst police action in US history, based on law. :duh3:

First, id also like to see you tell us what other republicans like sex with young boys.

Second, stop insulting catholics priests who are generally good men.

Actually, if you read the "Lawrence v Texas," the basis of teh original law is morality and is not going to withstand today's assault on it, just as it didn't.

Or in the case of Monica and Bill, just get completely ignored and never mentioned by the liberal MSM.
