In short, they were not honoring VISAs issued by the government of Iran.

I was in college when the Iran hostage crisis occurred, and Carter actually cancelled ALL student visas for Iranian students and deported every damn one of them ( background checks be damned)!!!

And they had no appeal or legal process...
