Quake hits near Iran's nuclear city Bushehr, 37 dead

An earthquake with magnitude 6.3 occurred near Bushehr, Iran at 11:52:50.12 UTC on Apr 9, 2013 .... Tehran has repeatedly rejected safety concerns about Bushehr - built in a highly seismic area -

The quake happened on National Nuclear Technology Day .... isn't that an irony or what? :eusa_whistle:

Was not an earthquake, but a nuclear accident.(just a thought)

Undaunted, "Iran plans to build more nuclear power reactors in an earthquake-prone coastal area, Iranian media said on Wednesday, a day after a strong tremor struck the region close to its only existing such plant"...:cuckoo:

That's crazy. That sounds like a Chernobyl waiting to happen again. Chernobyl poisoned the skies over a dozen countries in the Baltic region, not to mention the polar cap.

I think Iran needs to consider locating their nuke plants in a more stable region. It's just not safe not only for the people of Iran, but each one of their neighbors is a target.

Exactly!!! and although Tuesday’s quake was much smaller than the 9.0 magnitude one that hit Japan two years ago, triggering a tsunami that destroyed back-up generators and disabled the Fukushima nuclear plant’s cooling system and where three of the reactors melted down.... it is still a very dangerous situation.... but Iran couldn't care less.... on it goes with its nuclear ambitions!

Iran will be stopped....and it's going to be sooner than later now.

Diplomats: Earthquakes Damage Iranian Nuclear Power Plant
June 04, 2013 > Two diplomats say Iran's only nuclear power plant, which already has raised safety concerns, has been damaged by recent earthquakes.
The unidentified diplomats told the Associated Press that international monitors believe large cracks have developed in one part of the Bushehr plant. Iran has refused to join a global treaty on nuclear plant safety and Bushehr has been shut down several times since it opened in 2011.

Destruction near the city of Bushehr, Iran, after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck on April 9, 2012.

Iran's neighbors, including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, have said they are concerned about the safety of the Russian-built nuclear reactor. Iran has insisted Bushehr is safe and says it was built to hold up in all but the most powerful of earthquakes.

Several earthquakes struck Iran in April and May, including a 7.7-magnitude quake. Bushehr was built to generate power and the West is not concerned that it could contribute to Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program.
