President Bush and top administration officials issued 935 false statements on Iraq

Study: False statements preceded war - Conflict in Iraq- msnbc.com

WASHINGTON - A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.

Named in the study along with Bush were top officials of the administration during the period studied: Vice President Dick Cheney, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan.

Bush led with 259 false statements, 231 about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 28 about Iraq's links to al-Qaida, the study found. That was second only to Powell's 244 false statements about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 10 about Iraq and al-Qaida.

I'll just leave this here. :eusa_whistle:

*yawn*

I agree with Gunny

It is boring that we brought our country to a war that lead to 4000 dead soldiers and tens of thousands wounded because of false claims of an Iraqi threat

It's understandable reading that made you real tired.

I think it was more than 935.

They tried to link 911 to Iraq at least that many times.

well we linked you to being a moron 935 times ....and we were successful 935 times...

Hardly.

And your posts are nothing but personal insults.

Pretty sad really.

its funny how you seem to get the majority of the personal insults in these threads Chris.....i have even seen Left leaner's throw a few at ya....so my statement stands.....
we linked you to being a moron 935 times ....and we were successful 935 times..

We went to war on the basis of lies. We let the man that had masterminded the murder of 3000 Americans on American soil get away. We spent like drunken sailors on this war of choice, and set our economy up for a huge deficit and fall.

!Yawn!

!Yawn!

Most definitely a "yawn"

After all....everything Bush is old news. The fact that the American puplic was mislead in regards to the threat that Iraq posed and their connection to terrorism is now irrelevant. Anything that occurred before "the SURGE" has no bearing on our current situation in Iraq

Were we supposed to give Saddam the benefit of the doubt?

Saddams claims on his WMD capabilities were more accurate than Bush's

Not according to Clinton and all the Dems

You could have listened to Hans Blix

"There were about 700 inspections, and in no case did we find weapons of mass destruction," said Hans Blix, the Swedish diplomat called out of retirement to serve as the United Nations' chief weapons inspector from 2000 to 2003; from 1981 to 1997 he headed the International Atomic Energy Agency. "We went to sites [in Iraq] given to us by intelligence, and only in three cases did we find something" - a stash of nuclear documents, some Vulcan boosters, and several empty warheads for chemical weapons. More inspections were required to determine whether these findings were the "tip of the iceberg" or simply fragments remaining from that deadly iceberg's past destruction, Blix said he told the United Nations Security Council. However, his work in Iraq was cut short when the United States and the United Kingdom took disarmament into their own hands in March of last year.

U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix faults Bush Administration for lack of "critical thinking" in Iraq

Unfucken believable. The Senate and the House did 3 SEPARATE investigations on this and found NO lies were told. No purposeful misinformation was given. Both Republican and Democratic controlled congress did these investigations. You leftwing bullshit artists are out to rewrite history again.

GIVE IT A REST. There is ZERO evidence that President Bush lied to the American people. ZERO evidence Cheney lied to the American people. ZERO evidence Bush administration lied to the American people. 9 years later 2 bullshit artists make shit up and you retards are right back to claiming what never happened did.

Tell ya what? The NEXT time I hear one of you belly ache about a birther thread I am going to remind you you lie and distort about Bush. Give it a rest already.

We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat." –Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, when asked about weapons of mass destruction in an ABC News interview, March 30, 2003

"British intelligence has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production." –President Bush, 2003 State of the Union Address

"Already, the Kay Report identified dozens of weapons of mass destruction-related program activities and significant amounts of equipment that Iraq concealed from the United Nations." –President Bush, 2004 State of the Union Address

We know he's been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons, and we believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons." –Vice President Dick Cheney, "Meet The Press" March 16, 2003

The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.

The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both.

Named in the study along with Bush were top officials of the administration during the period studied: Vice President Dick Cheney, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald H. Pay no attention to the big eared man behind the curtain trying to take over 1/6 of the economy. He's of no importance. THIS is where you should look.

Pay no attention to those who, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, still believe the Healthcare bill constitutes a government takeover of healthcare

Saddam lied about having WMD's.

"It was very important for him to project that because that was what kept him, in his mind, in power. That capability kept the Iranians away. It kept them from reinvading Iraq," Piro says.

Before his wars with America, Saddam had fought a ruinous eight year war with Iran and it was Iran he still feared the most.

"He believed that he couldn't survive without the perception that he had weapons of mass destruction?" Pelley asks.

"Absolutely," Piro says.
We believed him, Republicans and Democrats alike.

"As the U.S. marched toward war and we began massing troops on his border, why didn't he stop it then? And say, 'Look, I have no weapons of mass destruction.' I mean, how could he have wanted his country to be invaded?" Pelley asks.

"He didn't. But he told me he initially miscalculated President Bush. And President Bush's intentions. He thought the United States would retaliate with the same type of attack as we did in 1998 under Operation Desert Fox. Which was a four-day aerial attack. So you expected that initially," Piro says.
He had every opportunity to readmit the UN weapon inspection teams.

Saddam gambled, bluffed and lost.

RGS is absolutely correct...this is simply an attempt to rewrite history.

its no surprise the left who have posted in this thread so far have completely ignored the dems statement on the matter...nor do they post other countries statements, nor do they post saddam's or his general's statements....

anything to deflect from obama's silliness and failures lately

75 to 100 years from now there will be historians that will write the legacy of the Iraq war. They will have the true facts on the reasons and give an honest assessment of the Iraq War.
Until then it will be nothing but bias opinions from each side that claims the other side is rewriting history. But it makes for a good thread, huh?
