Why not? We did it after WWI and it gave new immigrants time to become assimilated in US society. The halt allowed long-standing differences to heal and let newcomers become part of the melting pot.
IMHO, until the Divider-in-Chief leaves office, we will not have a chance for the most important assimilation of all – the current schisms within American society among racial groups.
We've had big immigration fluxes from South Vietnam and Cuba where there has been a great deal of adaptation to our culture. But, will this influx from the Middle East work as well?
