POVERTY SOARS: Number of Poor Americans Swells to 15.1 Percent

Now that the wealth has been successfully redistributed, when is the change gonna come?

We were first told of the Grand bargain back in the 1980s. It was called, variously, Supply Side Economics or Voodoo Economics or Trickle Down economics.

The idea went something like this: if the rich get more money through tax breaks, they will inevitably spend that money to create jobs.

Well, the 400 richest families in America now control as much wealth as the bottom 50% of tax payers COMBINED. The top 5% of the wealthiest individuals control more capital than the bottom 85% of wage earners.

Now that what the Right fears most about Obama (wealth redistribution) has happened, I, and many, many other Americans sit waiting for the trickle down to begin! What's going on here, Conservatives? Did your theory become a turd in the punch bowl yet again?

Hey you stupid fuck, check a calendar it's 2011, Obama is President and Reid is Senate Majority Leader and guess what? the DNC says' "We Own the economy"
You got everything you ever wanted! The richest Americans are cruising along with a negligible tax burden, the corporations are sitting on piles of cash, the rich are richer than ever before! Where's the trickle down? When's it supposed to start?
When the government stops treating business like the enemy.

But we don't own politics. That belongs to the Tea Party. And today, politics, thy name is obstruction and pertulance.

So YOU want Totalitarianism.

GOP, STFU and do what the Democrats tell you. It doesn't matter what your constituents want...Democrats know what's best.

No, I want a politics worthy of the constitution: a document born of compromise and healthy, constructive and civil debate.

Oh! We're talking about taking responsibility now, eh? Can you tell me why the Glass Steagal Act was repealed? Can you describe why Henry Paulson went hat in hand to the Congress in September of 2008? Wasn't he George W. Bush's Secretary of the Treasury?

And why do Conservatives get all bollixed up when an apology for past wrongs is proffered? Afraid of taking responsibility?

Wahhhhhhhh Wah Wahhhhhhhhh We're not in charge of anything! We're only the President and had a veto proof majority. WahhhhhhhhWahhhhh
You had previously said something about 6 year olds. I can understand why that particular reference came so quickly to what passes for your mind.

Wahhhhh Why can't everyone love us! We can't tolerate any dissent!

Dissent is the highest of pat.....SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!! OBAMA IS PRESIDENT!!! HE CANNOT TOLERATE CRITICISM!!!

Thin skinned fucking pussies

Damn those rich people.

The typical poor household in America has a car, air conditioning, 2 color TVs, either cable or satellite, a DVD player, and a VCR. Damn those rich people for denying Americans the basics they need to survive.

I was gonna kid around and just post;

BOOOOOSSHHHHH

but after seeing your post,

REEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAGAN

and back we go 30 years...:doubt:I mean seriously? thats ridiculous.

and the top 5% pay what % of the fed revenue via income taxs?

and a question- is 250k 'rich'?
I wouldn't want to hinder the avalanche of job creation by trying to balance the federal budget by raising the top tax rate from 35% to 39%! That just would bankrupt us! bullshit.

ok then, but thats not what I asked NK, I asked if you thought 250K is rich?

Record Number of Americans Living in Poverty, Census Reports

POVERTYSOARS_20110913_125239.jpg

More Americans were living in poverty in 2010 than at any time since at least the 1950s, with the overall poverty rate climbing to 15.1 -- a 6 percent jump in just one year -- according to Census figures released Tuesday.
Thank you, Obama administration.

The number of uninsured also edged up to 49.9 million, the highest in over two decades.
What? MORE uninsured, even with Obamacare passing? Sounds like what happened in MA with Romneycare.

Reflecting the lingering impact of the recession, the U.S. poverty rate from 2007-2010 has now risen faster than any three-year period since the early 1980s...

The situation has hit black populations the hardest, with their poverty rate rising from 25.8 percent to 27.4 percent. Child poverty rose from 20.7 percent to 22 percent.
Why does Obama hate black people? (for the terminally stupid, that is a parody of people who claimed Bush hated black people).

Must suck to be poor.

So.. the Tea Party.. who has next to no one actually IN office so far... is responsible for blocking all the wonderful democratic legislation this session?

Really? You want to go with that?

:cuckoo:

Thank you, Obama administration.

How exactly is this ‘Obama’s fault.’

The increase in poverty is clearly the consequence of the December 2007 recession, which occurred before Obama was president. You may blame whomever you want: Bush, Clinton – FDR, for that matter, all better candidates for blame than Obama.

And to expect Obama to clean up this mess in just over two and a half years is equally idiotic.

Rather than trying to affix blame, why not put that effort toward finding solutions.

We were first told of the Great Society back in the 1960s. It was called "preserving the liberty of our citizens" and "a place where every child can find knowledge to enrich his mind and to enlarge his talents."

The idea went something like this: "It will be the task of your generation to make the American city a place where future generations will come, not only to live but to live the good life. "

War on Poverty. civil rights laws. Yeah, I remember that era. And today, Conservatives argue that America's poor either have it too good or aren't poor enough. turns out the era of mud floors, no schools, no electricity and no voting rights has long gone and will never return, hopefully.

But coddling the rich, using legislation of ensure their pre-eminence and even arguing closing loopholes amounts to a tax increase has successfully concentrated America's wealth among the very few and extremely privileged. This was done under the pretext that making the rich richer will ultimately benefit every american. Well, you guys have done it!

The Great Society eliminated desperate, third world poverty conditions in America. What's Trickle Down done for us lately?

I suggest you take a tour of homes in the ghetto some day if that's what you think.

The primary flaw in your argument is that Reagan's policies did not result in a redistribution of wealth. LBJ's program, however, did.

I'm the County Building Inspector. My experience trumps your anecdote.

And before Reagan's Voodoo economics, there was a much more equitable distribution of wealth. Those who actually made things were wealthier than those who did not.

Now, CEOs are getting 450 times the pay of their average employee. And a hedge fund manager (who makes nothing at all) gets more pay than ever thought possible for creating nothing.

The wealth HAS been redistributed. It's all gone up, never down AS PROMISED.

Well I have owned several rental properties and have been through plenty of inner city homes up for sale with Section 8 tenants and have seen first hand how other landlords neglect their properties and squalor many tenants live in. So nanny nanny boo boo, stick your head in doo doo.

:poop:

And before Reagan's Voodoo economics, there was a much more equitable distribution of wealth. Those who actually made things were wealthier than those who did not.

If you are seriously trying to claim that an automobile assemblyman at Ford made more than the CEO, that is simply not true. What Reagan did was decrease the redistribution of wealth, exactly the opposite of what you claim, by allowing people to keep more of what they rightfully earned.

Now, CEOs are getting 450 times the pay of their average employee. And a hedge fund manager (who makes nothing at all) gets more pay than ever thought possible for creating nothing.

And what, pray tell, does that have to do with Ronald Reagan?

The wealth HAS been redistributed. It's all gone up, never down AS PROMISED.

Yes, it has been redistributed, in the form of food stamps, Section 8 housing vouchers, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, national flood insurance, farm subsidies, the military industrial complex, and every other nanny state entitlement program that encourages people to not be responsible for themselves.

Did you listen to his speech after he got enough votes to clinch the nomination? He expected to clean it up in a lot less time than that, what does that make him?
