US State Secretary Mike Pompeo can easily find out that Moscow strictly abides by the INF nuclear missile treaty the US is threatening to quit – by taking up an invitation to the test of the Russian missile, a Moscow senator says.

Russia “can invite Pompeo to personally visit the test” of the missile he says violates the treaty, Senator Franz Klintsevich said. He added that the weapon system, which has attracted such obsessive attention of the Western officials, has a range of 498 kilometers – less than the bottom boundary set for missiles banned by the treaty.

Washington is “well aware” of Russia’s “full compliance” with the INF treaty, Russia’s Foreign Ministry’s Spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said responding to Pompeo Monday.

Nothing will happen in 60 days, Russia does NOT accept any ultimatums, Pompeo should know it.

The notion of “isolating” a country of Russia’s size, Eurasian location, resources, and long history as a great power is vainglorious folly. It reflects the paucity and poverty of foreign thinking in Washington in recent decades, not the least in the US Congress and mainstream media.

Considering Washington’s inability to “isolate Russia,” considering Russia’s diplomatic successes in recent years, and considering the bitter fruits of US militarized and regime-change foreign policies (which long predate President Trump), perhaps it’s time for Washington to learn from Moscow rather than demand that Moscow conform to Washington’s thinking about—and behavior in—world affairs. Evgeny Sidorov knew things were bad when the heating at the factory he worked at in central Russia was switched off in midwinter. The temperature was about minus 15C and many of the building’s windows were missing. Since then, things have only got worse at the Ormeto-YUMZ machinery factory in the city of Orsk. The facility has been closed since September, salaries for its 3,000 workers are in arrears and as its banks, lenders and management argue over its debt load, many think it may never start up again. “There are no materials, there is no money, there are no customers,” said Mr Sidorov. “There is nothing . . . They do not care about us.”*Away from Moscow’s Michelin-starred restaurants, Bentley showrooms and glistening granite pavements, Russia’s regional industrial belt is struggling. Expected gross domestic product growth of about 1.7 per cent this year would be far worse without strong oil and gas revenues, suggesting other sectors of the economy are stagnant or in retreat.*“Only people who deal in oil think that everything is all right in Russia,” said Vladimir Gudomarov, head of the Orsk branch of the Russian Communist party. “We are left here with the little that remains. The authorities are only interested in their own pockets . . . And they just look to oppress and suppress the public anger.”*

“The policies, the attitudes of people are set by those at the top. To be honest, I'm not really sure about Pompeo. As a politician, he was part of the Tea Party, a part of the Republican Party that has connections to Russia.

He could be for real, or all fake. He doesn't have to act like an idiot to have everyone know what side he is on.

I'm not saying he is pro-Russia or anti-Russia, just that there isn't any definite proof one way or the other.
