A new Messenger/Harris poll conducted by HarrisX found that voters believe illegal immigration to the United States is increasing, but support a compromise that would strengthen border security while giving a pathway to citizenship to migrants who entered the country illegally.

Much of polling these days is intended to produce the desired result by manipulating the wording of the questions to get the result that is wanted. Any poll that suggests that a majority of the American population wants the 30+million illegals to be converted to voting U.S.. citizens is...shall we say...fundamentally flawed.

Yes. Immigration needs a reform, a major one.

I think.

1 each person has to fluently speak English, read it and write it.

2 a one to two year waiting period

3 a application fee amounting to say 8000 dollars American dollars.

4 a demonstration you understand basic American customs and have a working knowledge of the countries history.

5 a signed swearing in requiring them to say the pledge of allegiance and they sign a document if they remain unemployed longer than 45 days or are arrested for any crimes in their first 5 years they are automatically deported and their citizenship revoked.

6 once admitted entry you can't be an actual citizen for 5 years, you're a citizen to be. Meaning you can't be a police officer, a politician, own a firearm, and you can not vote in any election and so on.

Do that and you'll end up with people who truly want to be Americans and will be willing to integrate to our society.

I'm not against immigration reform at all. In fact, it is way long overdue. The problem is how do you define it and what are we going to do. And, the biggest part is, once those things are figured out, or even before they are figured out, we need to put a 100% control on the border, which includes asylum seekers. Not one person comes in illegally. Not one. This is a total nonstarter for Democrats. They want immigration reform without putting a cork in the bottle.
