Opposing Authoritarian Ideological Fundamentalism.
The Kavanaugh circus got me wondering this morning about what we expect from our elected representatives.

Do you want to elect the person who best represents you, and allow them to follow their conscience?

Or, do you want the person you elect vote based on how YOU feel about the issues?

How should these "leaders" lead?
.

Takes to long to get opinions on a lot of stuff. And opinions change based on the amount of information available to explain the position. I vote for the person I feel is likely to believe mostly what I believe and to vote accordingly.

Well since the Ds just proved that for the most part Ds have no conscience I want everyone to follow their constituents

90%
"I want them to vote based on what most of their constituents want"

I mean that's why they are called a representative.

10%

"I want to elect them and have them vote their own conscience"

Sometimes popular opinion can be misguided or the populace is misinformed/uninformed.

Mangos are a healthy snack, it could be argued that once in a while a mango giveaway would strengthen the nation.

I went with three.
I'm trying to earn my socialist chops.

If your constituents want you to vote to deny an innocent man justice then that's the dim way I guess.

No...I want them to vote according to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and limiting the size and power of the federal government...

When I was an elected leader, I voted what I thought was best on the issue. While I listened to citizens, it was my ultimate decision.

Mac,

you know as well as i do they'll vote according to their corporate masters greasing their ride

So how did that work out? What kind of feedback did you get?
.

The people who voted me in, probably agreed with most of my decisions, those that didn't vote for me, probably had mixed feelings. The thing is, you are dealing with limited time and money constraints. You pick the most viable solutions with the best chance for success or least amount of damage. The public wants government to be the bearer of bad news on keeping up property, telling the neighbors to be quiet and so on. Most of that stuff could be better handled by neighbors who could communicate directly.

Tough question the obvious answer is vote how their constituents want as they are sent there to represent us but what if the majority of them wanted there Rep to vote for something like restricting due process? Voting how the people you represent feel has to be a major factor but it can't be the only one.

I quit voting because it clearly doesn’t mean anything.

Thing is....the person I voted for is because we have similar views on many issues already. So I would expect them to vote their conscience because it would be what I would want as well.
BUT if it was something I didn't agree with, or the other candidate won...….I would hope they'd actually listen to and consider their constituents views....and I say that because of some issues that I had contacted my representatives about (whom I didn't vote for) and I only got 'canned' thank you responses from that didn't even address the issue I contacted them for:bang3:

There is no such luxury as "voting their own conscience". Can not happen. Congress is controlled by 4 party "enforcers".. Cross them and you'll be primaried out and/or working out of a service closet with the mops and toilet paper.

Conclusion --- nearly 531 members of Congress are place-keeping dummies. And redundant. Ask any one of them a question and you get the spin of their party leadership..

Item #2 -- HALF their constituents HATE what they do. Fact of life. And it's tough shit to them. They might be able to handle your beef with the SocSec or IRS -- but BEYOND that -- if you are not in their tribe -- you HAVE no representation..

Conclusion -- Most of us are losers to 2 party politics.

Item #3 -- Free Mangoes? Hell no. Bad for the planet. Increasing mango production to that level would cause instant planetary cooling into the next Ice Age.

Conclusion -- nothing is free. :eusa_angel:

REALLY TRUELY -- this is all you need to know about the fix we're in..

There needs to be about 6 or 8 TRUE INDEPENDENTS in Congress by 2020 to start breaking the 2 party dominance and I'm focused on that task right now. While I eat my mango..

We live in this illusion of a two party 'choice' in the guise of one party , the $$$ party.

This is why the Kavanaugh circus exists, and is repetitive , we've seen the Stormy, Monica ,along with whatever cast of clowns come/go in a tsumani of tabloid mentality spamage & howling partisans

This is social engineering at it's finest , nobody pays attention to what's being legislated OR the collusion and corruption inherent within it, if the general poplance is focused below the belt.

No Ruskie need apply!

I want them to vote based upon what their state legislature and Governor determine is best for their State.
