A corrolary question for discusion:


Q: Why types of voter fraud would voter ID laws prevent, and is an ID law the most effective way of preventing that type?


This is my answer:

The main type of voter fraud that an ID law would prevent would be people voting in the name of a dead person. However, there is another, far more effective way of preventing this - and that is simply to take the name of dead people off the rolls. Then not only can no one vote in their name, but if they try to vote in their name we will know they are frauds no matter how good their fake ID is!


The type of voter fraud I think is the most scary and the more common is the one that happens on the inside - where government workers illegally stuff ballot boxes or in some way influence the count. Voter ID law would not stop this at all!


Another way of ensuring that only one vote is cast per named voter is through some sort of bio identification method. If we had people put down a thumb print next to their signature on the rolls, for instance, we could take that print and search through rolls in other precincts to see if turns up.

Are you telling me that since we don't have voter ID laws until recently, every election in this country for the past couple hundred years has been dominated by fradulent votes?
